A Person Killed and Two Others Wounded, Including a Woman, in Two Separate Incidents in Gaza

Field Update

Yesterday,
‘Alaa’ al-Souri was killed and another person was wounded due to being fired at
by a gunman in al-Shati’ refugee camp. In a separate incident, I’timad al-Taweel was mistakenly wounded by a
live bullet, when her son was cleaning a gun in Sheikh Redwan
neighborhood. Such two incidents are
part of the state of security chaos and misuse of weapons prevailing in the
Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT).

According
to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR),
at approximately 10:00 on Wednesday, 3 November 2010, ‘Alaa’ Mohammed al-Souri,
24, was killed, as he was shot by a live bullet to the chest, besides, Mohammed
Naji Ghabboun, 22, was wounded by two live bullets in the chest and left
shoulder, when a gunman, working in Gaza Municipality’s Police, fired at them
in al-Shati’ refugee camp in the west of Gaza City. The two persons were in their perfumery when
the incident took place. The Palestinian
police arrived, arrested the person, who opened the fire, and initiated an
investigation.

In a
separate incident, at approximately 17:00 on Wednesday, 3 November 2010,
I’timad Jom’a al-Taweel, 47, from Sheikh Redwan neighborhood in northern Gaza
City, was transported to Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. She was wounded in the right thigh by a live
bullet, when her son was cleaning a gun inside the house. Al-Taweel received the necessary medical treatment
in the hospital, where medical sources described her wounds as moderate.

PCHR
strongly condemns
such incidents, which are
considered part of the state of security chaos and misuse of weapons prevailing
in the OPT. It also
calls
upon the Attorney-General to seriously investigate the incident and bring
perpetrators to justice.
