Field Update
Yesterday, Dalia Mostafa Abu Ghraba,
13, was killed and four persons, including her father and brother, were wounded
due to using firearms in a familial dispute in the east of Deir al-Balah town
in the central Gaza Strip. This incident
is part of the state of proliferation of weapons and assaults on the rule of
law prevailing in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (oPt).
According to investigations conducted
by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 18:30 on
Saturday, 12 November 2011, a family dispute erupted between members of the
al-Louh and Abu Ghraba families in the east of Deir al-Balah. The dispute developed into using
firearms. As a result, Dalia Mostafa Abu
Ghraba, 13, was killed by a bullet to the head.
Besides, four other members of Abu Ghraba family were wounded, including
Dalia’s father and brother. The wounded
are:
1. Mostafa
Oda Abu Ghraba, 52, wounded by a bullet to the right leg;
2. Saher
Mostafa Abu Ghraba, 16, seriously wounded by a bullet to the head;
3. Yousef
Salem Abu Ghraba, 50, wounded by a bullet to the chest; and
4. Ghassan
Yusef Abu Ghraba, 27, wounded by a bullet to the right hand.
The police arrived at the scene and
arrested five suspects.
PCHR is extremely concerned over
continued casualties resulting by the misuse of weapons in family disputes
which is part of the state of security chaos and assaults on the rule of law
plaguing the OPT. PCHR calls upon the
Attorney-General to open investigations into the death of Abu Ghraba and to
bring perpetrators before justice.
