Field Update
On Monday, 22 August 2011, a young man was killed and his father
and two brothers were wounded, when they were fired at by gunmen on the ground
of an old family revenge. This attack is
part of the state of security chaos and proliferation of weapons prevailing in
the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for
Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 14:30 on Monday, 22 August 2011, a number
of gunmen fired at 4 members of the Abu Rwais family who were traveling in a
car (Opel Kadett) in al-Quds Street towards Balata refugee camp, where they
live, east of Nablus in the northern West Babk. One of the family members, Mo’ayad Mohammed Abu Rwais, 26, was instantly
killed by a bullet to the abdomen. The
victim’s two brothers and father were also wounded:
1- Jom’a
Mohammed Abu Rwais, 19, seriously wounded by a bullet to the abdomen and was
later pronounced clinically dead;
2- Jalal
Mohammed Abu Rwais, 35, wounded by a number of bullets to the feet, when he
attempted to run away; and
3- Mohammed Abu
Rwais, 57, wounded by a number of bullets to the feet, when he attempted to run
away.
The Palestinian police arrived at the scene and opened an
investigation. There are assumptions
that the murder was committed on the aground of an old family revenge.
PCHR strongly condemns this crime, which is part of the state of
security chaos and proliferation of weapons prevailing in the OPT, and calls
upon the Public Prosecution to investigate it and bring the perpetrators before
justice.
