Update
On
Monday, 26 December 2011, a man was killed when a bomb exploded in his house in
Jabalya refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip. This incident is a part of the security chaos
and misuse of weapons plaguing the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT).
According
to investigation conducted by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR),
at approximately 16:20 on Monday, 26 December 2011, the body of Imad Kamel Washah,
36, from Jabalya refugee camp, was brought to Kamal Odwan Hospital in Beit
Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip. Washah
was hit by shrapnel to the face and the chest when a bomb exploded in his house
by mistake. The Izziddin al-Qassam
Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, issued a statement yesterday indicating that
Washah is one of its members and that he was killed when a bomb exploded by
mistake in his house.
PCHR
views with grave concern this incident which is part of the state of misuse of
weapons and attacks on the rule of law in the OPT. PCHR repeats its calls for the Palestinian
resistance groups to take necessary measures to stop storing explosions and
weapons in civilian places.
