This
morning, Yehya Rabah, a senior leader of the Fatah movement, was severely
beaten by two unknown persons.  As a
result, Rabah sustained bruises throughout his body.  This attack is part of the state of security
chaos and assaults on the rule of law prevailing in the occupied Palestinian territory
(oPt).

According
to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR)
and statements made by Rabah, at approximately 00:10 on Wednesday, 01 August
2012, two unknown persons stopped Yehya Ibrahim Rabah (69), Fatah Deputy
Commissioner General in the Gaza Strip, as he was waiting for a taxi in the
parking area of al-Badeya Restaurant in al-Rimal neighborhood in the west of
Gaza City.  The two unknown persons violently
beat Rabah with sticks before escaping on a motorcycle.  Rabah lost consciousness; a number of persons
arrived at the scene and transferred Rabah to al-Quds Hospital in Gaza City for
medical treatment.  It was found out that
he sustained bruises throughout his body.

PCHR
strongly condemns this attack, which is part of the state of security chaos and

the Attorney General to open a serious investigation into the incident and to
bring the perpetrators to justice.
