The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) strongly condemns the killing of 8 Palestinian civilians, including a child, and injury of at least 4 others this morning and yesterday in the evening.
The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) fired live ammunition during clashes that accompanied their suppression of peaceful protests organized in solidarity with the Gaza Strip across the West Bank.
Among those killed, 7 were killed during the clashes with IOF while the eighth was killed after IOF targeted a bulldozer driven by him, claiming that he attempted to run-over Israeli soldiers stationed at a military checkpoint.
These crimes prove IOF’s lenient shooting standards and unjustified killing upon Israel’s top military and political echelons.
According to Information available to PCHR’s fieldworkers, the events were as follows:At around 05:00 on Monday, 09 October 2023, IOF opened fire at Rajeh Husam Rajeh Taha Abu Sninah (18), claiming that he was driving a bulldozer and trying to run-over Israeli soldiers stationed at a military checkpoint in southern Hebron.
IOF left Abu Sninah to bleed to death, pulled his body and kept it under the Israeli custody.
At approximately 22:50 on Sunday, 08 October 2023, clashes erupted between IOF and Palestinians at the entrance to Beita village, southeast of Nablus, where IOF fired live ammunition at Palestinian protestors.
As a result, ‘Imad Jareh Majed ‘Adeli (19) was injured with a live bullet in his neck and evacuated to Rafidia Governmental Hospital, where he was shortly pronounced dead.
At around 21:00, clashes broke out with IOF near the western entrance to Hebron, where IOF fired live ammunition at Palestinian protestors.
As a result, Mohammed Jawad ‘Abed al-Rahman Zaghir (21) was shot dead with a live bullet in his chest.
At approximately 20:40, following a protest organized against the Israeli aggression on Gaza, clashes erupted between dozens of Palestinian young men and boys and IOF at the entrance to Qalandia refugee camp and along Jerusalem-Ramallah Street, which connects Kafr ‘Aqab village with Qalandia military checkpoint.
Minutes later, several military SUVs broke into Qalandia checkpoint while dozens of Israeli soldiers deployed around it and along the main street amid heavy shootings.
Afterwards, the clashes developed into an exchange of fire; during which, IOF opened fire at Yaser Thair Sami al-Kasba (17), wounding him with a live bullet in his abdomen when he approached Qalandia checkpoint trying to throw a Molotov Cocktail.
Also, IOF stationed near Qalandia refugee camp’s entrance opened fire at a civilian vehicle driven by Amjad Maher Khudair (36), wounding him with alive bullet in his chest.
Minutes later, IOF fired a barrage of bullets at another vehicle carrying 3 Palestinians, seriously wounding them in their heads.
Among those injured were Adam Amjad al-Jolani (16) and Mohammed Ziyad Humaid (24).
The wounded were taken to Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah, where they were later pronounced dead.
At around 19:00, clashes broke out around the northern entrance to Jericho, where IOF established a military post. Afterwards, IOF fired live and rubber-coated bullets, stun grenades, and teargas canisters at Palestinian protestors and chased them in the area.
As a result, 5 protestors were injured, including ‘Abed al-Haleem Ibrahim Abu Dawoud (24) who was shot with 2 live bullets in his chest and abdomen from around 50 meters away.
The wounded protestors were taken to Jericho Governmental Hospital, where doctors pronounced Abu Dawoud dead, succumbing to his injury.
Thus, since last Saturday, Palestinian death toll in the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, has risen to 15, including 13 civilians, amongst them 3 children, and the number of those injured has reached 80, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MOH).
PCHR calls on the international community to take an immediate action to stop the Israeli crimes and double standard when applying the international law.
PCHR urges the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to take serious action in the situation of Palestine.
PCHR reiterates its call on the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention fulfil their obligations as per Common Article 1 of the Convention, “undertake to respect and to ensure respect for the present Convention in all circumstances,” and their obligations under Article 146 of the same Conventions, i.e., to hold accountable persons accused of committing grave breaches of the Convention.
