Ongoing Genocide: Israel Continues Mass Killings and Attacks on Displaced Persons’ Tents in the Gaza Strip

The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) continue to perpetrate mass killings and attacks against civilians, including the bombardment of tents sheltering displaced persons across the Gaza Strip. These attacks reflect Israel’s continued pursuit of genocidal acts against the Palestinian population.

The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights’ (PCHR) field researchers have documented a significant escalation in the deliberate targeting of displaced persons sheltering in makeshift tents and damaged homes. Such attacks form part of a broader systematic policy of mass killing and the destruction of the conditions necessary for the survival and stability of the Palestinian population.

Among the most significant incidents documented by PCHR’s researchers over the past few days:

At approximately 16:30 on Saturday, 6 June 2026, an Israeli drone targeted a tent belonging to the Qaddoum family in the vicinity of al-Rimal Elementary School for Boys in the western Rimal neighborhood of Gaza City. The attack killed seven persons immediately, including two women and a girl, and injured 20 others, some of whom sustained critical injuries. The strike also caused severe damage to nearby tents, depriving other displaced families of the only shelter available to them.

Around six hours after the initial strike, al-Shifa Medical Complex announced the death of an eighth person who had sustained critical injuries in the attack, bringing the total death toll to eight civilians. Those killed were identified as Suzan Mohammed Salem Qaddoum (49), Mervat Mohammed Salem Qaddoum (50), ‘Abdullah Riyadh Mas’oud Qaddoum (34), his daughter Mariam (8), Na’im ‘Abdel ‘Aziz Sha’ban al-Sersawi (51), Mohammed ‘Atiyah Abu ‘Afesh (36), Farahat Zuhair Farahat Hararah (38), and Fawaz Sa’ed Mahmoud Sa’ed (68), who later succumbed to his injuries.

At approximately 19:00 on the same day, IOF positioned along the yellow line, east of Gaza City, opened fire towards the western areas of al-Sikkah Street and Salah al-Deen Street in the al-Zaytoun neighborhood, killing Mahran Rezeq Sayed Felfel (37).

At approximately 03:10 on the same day, an Israeli drone targeted a tent on the roof of the Ferwana family council building in the al-Balad area of Khan Younis. As a result, Mohanad ‘Othman Yasin Ferwana (25) was killed and five other people were injured.

It should be noted that on the evening of the same day, Mohanad was due to get married. His father told PCHR’s field researcher that, following the conclusion of his son’s bachelor’s party in front of their home, Mohanad went up to the roof of the house to sleep in a tent, while he slept a few meters away. At around 03:00, he woke up to the sound of stones scattering and screams echoing all around. He saw that the tent where his son was sleeping was on fire. Around 15 to 20 minutes later, those present were able to extinguish the fire and pull Mohanad’s body out of the tent, but it was charred.

At approximately 21:40 on the same day, Israeli warplanes targeted a house belonging to the Zaarab family in al-Mawasi, Khan Younis, shortly after warning residents to evacuate the area densely populated by displaced people. The attack destroyed the house and many displaced people’s tents.

In a separate incident, IOF issued an evacuation warning for a residential block in the vicinity of the UNRWA health centre in al-Maghazi Refugee Camp in the Central Gaza Strip. Less than twenty minutes after the warning, Israeli warplanes carried out an airstrike targeting a house belonging to the Abu ‘Ashiiba family, completely destroying it and causing severe damage to nearby homes and commercial shops.

At approximately 04:05 on Friday, 5 June 2026, an Israeli helicopter fired three missiles at a tent in the al-Ihsan Camp, southwest of al-Mawasi, Khan Younis. The attack resulted in the killing of an 18-year-old girl, Bushra Hani Hasan al-Barahma and the injury of approximately 16 other persons.

Bursra’s father told PCHR’s field researcher that he heard three successive explosions coinciding with an Israeli helicopter hovering above, followed by the scattering of shrapnel among the tents of displaced persons and the screams of his daughter. When he reached the tent, he found his son, Mohanad (20), injured and bleeding from the pelvic area, while his daughter Sultanah (22) had sustained a shrapnel injury to her back. He also found his daughter Bushra (18) lying inside the tent with a shrapnel wound to the chest and no vital signs. The injured were transferred to Nasser Medical Complex, where doctors confirmed Bushra’s death, while Mohanad underwent surgery and his condition was described as moderate.

In light of the crimes above, PCHR reiterates its call on the international community to take urgent action to halt the mass killings and targeting of civilians by the IOF; to ensure accountability for those responsible before international judicial mechanisms; to take effective measures to guarantee protection for the civilian population; and to bring an end to the crime of genocide that has been ongoing for the past 32 months.
