Field Update
On Friday, 02 February 2018, a civilian was killed after he mishandled a weapon in Yatta, south of Hebron. This incident is part of security chaos, proliferation of weapons and assault on the rule of the law in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).
According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 16:00, on Friday, 02 February 2018, Mohammed Nasser Ibrahim Hammad al-Juneidi (21), from Enwaije’a area between al-Karmel and Khelet al-Mayah villages, was hit with a bullet to the chest while he was cleaning a weapon along with his friend in Yatta, south of Hebron. Al-Juneidi was transferred to Abu Hassan Al-Qasim Hospital in Yatta where his death was announced. The corpse was referred to the Forensic Department, while the security services arrested al-Juneidi’s friend who was with him and opened an investigation into the incident.
Police spokesperson, Loay Zreiqat, said that al-Juneidi died after he and another person mishandled a weapon. Zreiqat also pointed out that the police and public prosecution opened investigation into the incident.
PCHR gravely concerned over the increasing number of victims due to misusing and mishandling weapons. PCHR also calls upon the competent authorities to take the necessary measures to protect civilians from the dangers of weapons.
