Field Update
In the past days, three explosions
targeted a car belonging to Attorney Maher Abu Jebba, a car belonging to Misbah
‘Atallah, and a house belonging to Fatema Abu Khousa in Gaza City. These attacks are part of the state of
security chaos and misuse of weapons currently prevailing in the Occupied Palestinian
Territory (OPT).
According to investigations
conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) and the testimony
of Attorney Maher ‘Atteya Abu Jebba, 38, at approximately 10:30 on Monday, 09
August 2010, an explosion rocked a white Hyundai Sonata car belonging to Abu
Jebba, when it was parked in front of his office near al-Kinz mosque in the
center of al-Remal neighborhood in Gaza City. As a result, the right side of the car was damaged, but there were no
injuries. The Palestinian police and a
force of the Internal Security Service arrived and checked the scene. Abu Jebba stated to PCHR that he had received
a message on his mobile phone at 11:15 on the same day, threatening him
personally.
In another incident, at
approximately 03:00 on Monday, 09 August 2010, an explosive device was
detonated in a white truck belonging to Misbah Jasser ‘Atallah, 43, when it was
parked in front of his house in al-Zaitoun neighborhood in the southeast of
Gaza City. As a result, the car was
heavily damaged, but there were no injuries.
Furthermore, on Friday, 06 August
2010, an explosive device was detonated near a house belonging to Fatema
Mohammed Abu Khousa, 63, in
al-Jala’ Street in Sheikh Radwan neighborhood in the north of Gaza City. The house was lightly damaged, and no
injuries were reported. It should be
noted that Abu Khousa is the sister of Tawfeeq Abu Khosa, a leading figure in
Fatah movement who is currently in the West Bank.
PCHR is concerned over such attacks,
which are part of the state of security chaos and the misuse of weapons
currently prevailing in the OPT and calls upon the Attorney-General to
seriously investigate them and bring perpetrators to justice.
