2 Citizens Killed and 3 Others Wounded in 2 Separate Incidents of Assault on Rule of Law in Fandaqumiya and Silat al-Harithiya villages in Jenin

 Field Update09 August 2021  On Sunday afternoon, 08 August 2021, 2 citizens were killed and 3 others were wounded in 2 separate incidents of assault on rule of law in the villages of Fandaqumiya and Silat al-Harithiya in Jenin.  These incidents fall within the state of proliferation of weapons and assault on the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt.)The first incident took place at approximately 21:30 when Qosay Mohammed Soliman N’eirat (21), from al-Zababdah village in Jenin, was killed after a gun exploded during his participation in high school “Tawjihi” celebrations in Fandaqumiya village in southern Jenin.  N’eirat sustained critical wounds to his face, head, chest and limbs and was taken immediately by an ambulance to Dr. Khalil Soliman Governmental Hospital, where he was admitted the emergency department and pronounced dead.Spokesperson of the Palestinian police, Lo’ay Zreqiaqt, stated that the Public Prosecution initiated the legal proceedings into the death circumstances of N’eirat in high school celebrations in Fandaqumiya village.In another incident, a citizen was killed and 3 others were wounded during a family dispute in Silat al-Harithiya village in western Jenin.  At approximately 22:30, a family dispute broke out between (A.) and (J.) families, where both used firearms; as a result. (M. R. A.) was killed after several bullets hit different parts of his bodies.  He was taken to Dr. Khalil Soliman Governmental Hospital but was dead upon arrival.  Moroever, 3 other citzens were wounded: Mohammed Mofid Tahaynah (22) wounded with a bullet in his foot; Ya’qoub ‘Abdullah Shawahnah (35) wounded with bullets in his feet and Mo’az Ghaleb Jaradat (40) wounded with bullets in his feet.  They were all taken to Dr. Khalil Soliman Hospital as well for treatment.PCHR is deeply concerned over the recurrence of incidents of proliferation of weapons, and denounces the use of firearms in personal and family disputes, which jeopardizes the right to life, rule of law and Palestinian civil peace. PCHR calls upon the Palestinian Authority to take all the serious measures to put an end to the state of proliferation of weapons, including imposing strict controls over families’ possession of weapons and promptly imposing the rule of law, in order to maintain civil peace in light of the lately spiking homicides.
