Israel Kills 22 Palestinians, Including Three Girls and a Woman, and Forcibly Displaces Families by Setting Tents on Fire in Gaza

Between 22 October and the early hours of 26 October 2026, Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) killed 22 Palestinians, including three girls and a woman, and wounded others in airstrikes, gunfire, and artillery shelling targeting various areas across the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, IOF continue to expand the Yellow Zone, where they are deployed, by relocating the yellow concrete blocks, force residents to flee their homes, and target gatherings of displaced Palestinians and their tents. In al-Shuja’iya neighborhood in eastern Gaza City, Israeli drones set fire to dozens of tents sheltering displaced Palestinians, forcibly displacing dozens of families and forcing them to flee westwards and sleep in the open.

The burning of displacement tents in al-Shuja’iya, coupled with evacuation orders targeting residential blocks, attacks on homes, and the expansion of the Yellow Zone, reflects an escalation in Israeli measures aimed at forcing residents to leave their places of residence, despite having no alternative shelter to provide them with protection. These measures further restrict the geographic area in which Palestinians can remain, confining them to less than 30 per cent of the Gaza Strip’s territory. Meanwhile, IOF attacks and gunfire have continued in areas near the Yellow Zone, including residential neighborhoods and the vicinity of shelters and gatherings of civilians. These attacks further heighten the risks of death, injury, and forced displacement amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

The most significant attacks documented by PCHR’s field researchers were as follows:

At around 2:00 on Monday, 26 October 2026, an Israeli drone fired multiple missiles at tents sheltering displaced Palestinians in al-Iqlimi Park and the Beer 19 area of al-Mawasi, southwest of Khan Younis, amid gunfire by IOF stationed in the Yellow Zone, west of the city, targeting the tents. The attack killed three Palestinians, including a girl: Hussam Fakhri Mohammed al-Zamli (21), Jouri Islam Mohammed al-Soufi (7), and Tamer Seif al-Deen Mohammed Abu Sneimah (24). Others were also injured, including a girl whose injuries were reported to be critical.

At around 19:30 on Sunday, 25 October 2026, IOF dropped incendiary bombs on tents sheltering displaced Palestinians at the eastern ends of ‘Omar al-Mukhtar and al-Wehdah streets, in a park and the vicinity of al-Shuja’iya intersection in Gaza City. As a result, dozens of families sheltering in the tents were forcibly displaced, fleeing westwards and left to sleep in the open due to the lack of alternative shelters. This followed IOF’s relocation of the yellow concrete blocks at dawn on Sunday, 11 October 2026, extending the Yellow Zone westwards towards the outskirts of al-Shuja’iya neighborhood, bringing it to within a few meters of Salah al-Deen Street and al-Shuja’iya intersection. These developments indicate an attempt to impose a new buffer zone and expand it at the expense of areas where displaced Palestinians are sheltering.

At around 17:15 on Sunday, 25 October 2026, an Israeli drone fired two missiles at a group of Palestinians in the al-Sekkah area, near Abu Hmeid Intersection in central Khan Younis. Earlier that morning, the university had been targeted in an Israeli attack that injured seven students, including two female students. Medical sources reported that two of the injured sustained extremely serious injuries, while shrapnel damaged four vehicles parked in the area. This came after the university had announced the resumption of in-person classes on campus, effective 8 November 2025.

At around 19:15 on the same day, Israeli warplanes targeted a two-storey house belonging to the Hamad family with two missiles, destroying it and partially damaging several nearby houses.

At around 17:50 on the same day, an Israeli drone targeted a group of Palestinians gathered in front of al-Shati’ Boys’ School on ‘Ezz al-Deen al-Qassam Street, also known as al-Shifa Street, in western Gaza City. As a result, many families were forcibly displaced from the area towards the western part of the village.

The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) calls on the international community to take serious action to compel Israel to halt its ongoing genocidal campaign, protect civilians and their property, ensure the entry of goods, humanitarian aid, food, medical supplies, and other essential supplies, and hold those responsible for crimes committed against Palestinians accountable.
