In the past two days, the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights
(PCHR) has received delegations and figures who came to congratulate lawyer
Raji Sourani for his election as the President of the Board of Trustees of the
Arab Organization for Human Rights
.
Congratulating delegations included managers and representatives of
Palestinian civil society organizations, media professionals and journalists
and representatives of some national and Islamic factions. The visiting
delegations specifically included a delegation from the Palestinian NGO’s
Network; a delegation from the Palestinian Democratic Unions (FIDA) headed by
FIDA Deputy Secretary General Khaled al-Khatib; Director of Palestinian Women’s
Affairs Center, Naela Ayesh; a delegation from the Forum of Palestinian
Journalists; and a delegation of media professionals and journalists working
for a number of local and Arab newspapers.
In the same context, yesterday evening, Wednesday, 27 April 2011,
PCHR received Minister of Foreign Affairs in Gaza, Dr. Mohammed Awad,
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Ghazi Hamad, and
Director of Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Training Unit, Mohammed al-Madhoun.
Visiting delegations and figures expressed their happiness because
Sourani was elected as President of the Board of Trustees of the Arab
Organization for Human Rights, appreciating efforts exerted by Sourani and PCHR
to support human rights issues. Sourani said that electing him to occupy this
position represents an appreciation for the Palestinian human rights movement
which has been playing a major role in defending Palestinian and Arab human
rights in different forums.
It should be noted that Sourani was elected as the President of
Board of Trustees of the Arab Organization for Human Rights at the conclusion
of the eighth general assembly of the Organization in its head office in Cairo
on 14 and 15 April 2011. The Board of Trustees of the Organization and
representatives of Arab organizations that are members of the Organization
participated in these meetings.
The Arab Organization for Human Rights is a leading regional human
rights organization, whose head office is in Cairo. It was established in
1983 as a non-governmental organization whose goal is to protect and promote
human rights in the Arab World. The Organization includes dozens of member
organizations throughout the Arab World, including PCHR.
