PCHR General Assembly Convenes
On Sunday morning, 25 October 2009, the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights’ (PCHR) General Assembly convened. The meeting was opened by Mr. Raji Sourani, Head of the PCHR Board of Directors, who reviewed the deteriorating human rights’ situation during the last period. He explained that the deterioration of human rights peaked during the latest Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip in late December 2008. Sourani highlighted PCHR’s campaign to confront such ongoing deterioration. Members of PCHR’s General Assembly approved PCHR’s administrative report.
The General Assembly also considered the financial report submitted by PCHR’s auditor, Ernst and Young. The Assembly selected Ernst and Young to be PCHR’s auditor for 2009. The Assembly approved the proposed budget as well.
Members of the General Assembly elected a new Board of Directors for the next two years, composed of Raji al-Sourani, Jaber Weshah, Iyad Al-Alami and Hamdi Shaqqura. It was agreed that the elected members of the Board of Directors shall convene later to distribute administrative positions.
This meeting was held in the presence of Mr. ‘Imad al-Baz, registrar of companies in the Ministry of National Economy, as PCHR is registered as a non-profit company according to the applicable laws.
