Ref: 44/2022

Date: 22 December 2022

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) is pleased to announce that Mr. Raji Sourani, PCHR’s Director, has been awarded the 2022 Honorary Human Rights Award by the Association for Human Rights for Spain (The Asociación Pro Derechos Humanos de España- APDHE). The award is granted to outstanding human rights defenders for their tireless work in the defense and promotion of human rights in all parts of the world.

Mr. Raji Sourani said “This is not a personal award. This is a recognition of the suppressed and oppressed victims of the Israeli criminal belligerent occupation. Palestinians deserve dignity and justice, and we will keep our fight for the end of occupation, accountability and rule of law until the last breath despite the selectivity and politicization of international law.”

APDHE was established on 14 March 1976 and is the first organization directed to the defense and promotion of human rights in the history of Spain. APDHE focuses with its work on the human rights situation in Spain and other parts of the world, with a special focus on the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

The awards ceremony will take on 22 December 2022 in Madrid, Spain. However, Mr. Sourani will not be able to attend due to the restrictions on freedom of movement on the Gaza Strip and will deliver a video statement to be displayed during the ceremony.
