On Sunday, 03 September 2023, the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) concluded a training course on Human Rights and Democracy aimed at 26 university graduates and students and activists in civil society organizations CSOs. The 20-hour training course was conducted from 29 August – 03 September 2023 over the course of four consecutive days in Gaza City.

The training program tackled various topics commensurate with the needs of the targeted group with an introduction to international human rights law, the International Bill of Human Rights, international conventions on human rights such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), Gender, political participation of youth, and the Committee on Human Rights.

At the conclusion of the training course, PCHR organized a closing ceremony, where Mr. Abdul Halim Abu Samra, the Head of PCHR’s Training Unit, emphasized that this course falls within PCHR’s long-term work in training, raising awareness of youth and human rights activists on their rights and increasing their knowledge of human rights to build a young generation fully aware and capable of defending its fundamental rights and freedoms and having vital role in building a democratic society.

Abu Samra called on the participants to assume the role of human rights defenders in dissemination of human rights culture in general and women’s rights in particular among their peers and at their organizations, as well as their role in monitoring, accountability, and participation in decision-making to build a future where youth can fully enjoy their rights.

For their part, the female and male participants praised the course, emphasizing that it introduced them to new and rich topics that have contributed to raising their awareness on human rights. They also commended the trainers’ efficiency and the diverse and interactive training methods used in the training sessions, stressing the importance of holding more training courses for youth and university students.

At the end of the course, all participants received certificates.
