PCHR Concludes Training Course in Human Rights in Khan Yunis

On Thursday, 12 July 2012, the Training Unit of
the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) concluded a training course in
the field of human rights in cooperation with the Palestinian Academy for
Education and Training in Khan Yunis. 
The course was held in the Academy’s hall in the period 08-12 July
2012.  25 participants from 3 active
community-based organizations in Khan Yunis participated in the course.

 

The program of the course included a number of
international human rights instruments: the International Bill of Human Rights
(the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on
Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and the International Covenant on Civil
and Political Rights); the Convention on Elimination of All Forms of
Discrimination against Women; Convention on the Rights of the Child; Universal
Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women; in addition to
gender, the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law.

 

Bassam al-Aqra, Director of PCHR’s Training
Unit, stated that this course is part of a 3-year project funded by the
European Union and Oxfam Novib, whose goal is to improve awareness and respect
of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territory.  Al-Aqra’ added that this course is part of
long-term efforts exerted by PCHR to promote human rights in the Palestinian
society in cooperation with community-based organizations.  Abdul Halim Abu Samra, PCHR’s Public
Relations Officer in Khan Yunis, siad that PCHR’s door is open to all those
wishing to benefit from services provided by PCHR.

 

The participants highly appreciated PCHR’s
efforts to disseminate the culture of human rights in the Palestinian society.  One of the participants, Amna Abu Shalhoub,
said that the course contributed to raising the participants’ awareness of the
concepts of human rights and called for the organization of similar courses for
other beneficiaries from community-based organizations.  Another participant, Mahmoud al-Hajj,
appreciated the efficiency of trainers and the training methods, including
effective participation and discussion, which contributed to enriching the
course.

 

Al-Aqra’, Director of PCHR’s Training Unit, Abu
Samra, PCHR’s Public Relations Officer, and Fatma Salama, Executive Manager of
the Palestinian Academy, distributed the certificates to the participants.
