The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) continue their daily crimes of gunfire and bombardment, resulting in further civilian casualties and underscoring the non-existence of a ceasefire on the ground. The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) documented a new series of IOF attacks last Thursday, which claimed the lives of 14 Palestinians and injured 17 others, including children. Additionally, the IOF persist in bombing the remaining houses and buildings in the eastern Gaza Strip. These violations keep civilians trapped in a constant state of danger amid extremely harsh humanitarian conditions and effectively strip the ceasefire agreement of any real substance.
Among the most significant incidents documented by PCHR field researchers:
IOF stationed in the eastern parts of Jabalia Refugee Camp opened fire at around 05:40 on Thursday, 08 January 2026, targeting the al-Faloujah area inside the camp. As a result, Hamsah Nidal Samir Housou (11) sustained a gunshot wound to the head. She was initially taken to receive first aid at a temporary medical point inside Shadia Abu Ghazlah School in the same area. Due to the seriousness of her condition, she was later transferred to Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. At approximately 07:00 on the same day, she succumbed to her critical injuries and was pronounced dead.
An Israeli drone carried out a strike at around noon today, targeting a group of Palestinians gathered in the Sheikh Naser area, south of Khan Younis. As a result, Saleh ‘Abdullah Saleh al-Qassas (36) was killed.
At approximately 14:59 on the same day, an Israeli drone targeted a tent sheltering displaced persons in northwestern al-Mawasi, Khan Younis. The attack killed three children and wounded several others, one of whom sustained serious injuries. The victims were identified as ‘Abdullah al-Hussein Mohammed ‘Abdullah (7), ‘Omar al-Hussein Mohammed ‘Abdullah (5), and their aunt Layan ‘Omar Abu Saqrah (16).
At around 16:40, an Israeli drone attacked a tent sheltering displaced persons in the al-‘Attar area of al-Mawasi, Khan Younis. As a result, Kamal ‘Abdel Rahman Mohammed ‘Awwad (42) was killed, and three others were injured, including one who sustained serious injuries.
At around 17:15 on the same day, an Israeli drone fired two missiles at a tin-plated room inside Abu Hussein UNRWA School in the Jabalia refugee camp. The school was sheltering dozens of families displaced from various areas of the Gaza Strip. As a result of the attack, Ibrahim Nabil Soboh (21) was killed, and four others were injured, sustaining varying degrees of injury.
At around 19:20, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a tent sheltering displaced persons in the southern area of Zawaydah. As a result, Ahmed Hammad ‘Ali Thabet (46) and several others were injured, sustaining varying degrees of injury.
At approximately 20:45, the IOF targeted a barrack south of Askoulah village with a missile. As a result, four Palestinians were killed, and five others were injured.
The victims were identified as Ahmed Mohammed al-Bakri (31), Mohammed Mo’in Sha‘ban (36), Yasser Mohammed Sa‘ed al-Deen Hamdaqah (33), and Ra’fat Mo’in Mahmoud al-Hissi (31).
At around 21:50, Israeli warplanes targeted with one missile a house belonging to al-Majdalawi family in Nuseirat Refugee Camp in the central Gaza Strip. As a result, four residents of the house, who sustained varying degrees of injury, in addition to causing severe damage to the targeted house and partial damage to several neighboring houses.
At approximately 22:30, Israeli warplanes targeted al-Qreinawi family house in al-Bureij Refugee Camp and completely destroyed it. Around 40 minutes later, Israeli warplanes returned and struck two adjacent houses belonging to the al-Wer and ‘Issa families, leading to their complete destruction. The attacks resulted in the injury of three people.
According to follow-up by our field researchers, since the ceasefire was declared on 10 October 2025, the IOF have continued air and artillery bombardments, gunfire, and recurrent demolitions within areas located along the so-called “yellow line,” aimed at destroying the remaining houses and buildings. According to the Ministry of Health, these attacks have so far killed 439 people, including 155 children and 61 women, and have wounded 1223 others.
These daily incidents in the Gaza Strip underscore the ongoing Israeli military aggression and confirm that the announced ceasefire is non-existent on the ground. The IOF continue to carry out open, repeated, and systematic attacks, taking various forms, including the daily and nightly bombardment of neighborhoods and civilian objects, the destruction of remaining buildings, and deliberate shooting at areas densely populated with displaced persons.
The IOF also continue to expand the so-called “yellow zone” by moving the yellow markers and annexing additional areas of land. This expansion now reaches areas such as Jabalia refugee camp and eastern Khan Younis, placing them under direct military control. As a result, the area where the 2.2 million residents of Gaza are crammed into is further reduced, confining them to only 40% of the total area of the Gaza Strip.
All of this comes at a time when the people of the Gaza Strip continue to suffer from a lack of adequate shelter, following the destruction of approximately 90% of buildings across the Strip over the past 26 months, amid the ongoing repercussions of the aggression,, the siege and bad rainy weather that have severely affected humanitarian, economic, and health conditions.
PCHR reiterates its warning that the international community’s silence and the absence of accountability mechanisms effectively give Israel a green light to continue its systematic crimes of genocide against Palestinian civilians.
PCHR calls on the international community to uphold its responsibilities and take immediate measures, including providing urgent protection for civilians, ending IOF’s military presence in the Gaza Strip, halting the use of methods and weapons targeting civilian neighborhoods, and compelling Israel to cease its attacks and the ongoing siege on the Strip.
