Further to a press release issued by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) on 24 May 2021, PCHR’s lawyers managed on Wednesday morning, 26 May 2021, to obtain an approval regarding the travel of Dayana Muhi al-Deen Abu al-‘Aouf ( al-Yazji), 46, who was injured in the Israeli offensive on Gaza Strip, to the Istishari Arab Hospital in the West Bank via Beit Hanoun (Erez) Crossing.

It should be noted that Dayana was critically injured when Israeli warplanes targeted Abu al-‘Aouf residential building on the 7th day of the Israeli offensive, 16 May 2021, which caused a humanitarian catastrophe as a whole residential neighborhood was destroyed over its residents’ heads.

Due to Dayana’s critical health condition as she remained on a ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), on 18 May 2021, she obtained a medical referral to the Istishari Arab Hospital in the West Bank, but Israeli authorities at Eerz Crossing refused her travel application applied by the Palestinian competent authorities. As a result, Dayana’s health condition seriously deteriorated and her life became in an imminent danger.

After exerting unremitting efforts by PCHR’s lawyers over the past 2 days to save Dayana’s life, they obtained a travel permit from the Israeli competent authorities. This morning, the Israeli public prosecution granted an order to allow the travel of Dayana along with her brother via a mobile intensive care ambulance.

In the same context, PCHR’s lawyers managed to obtain an approval on the return of 4 dead bodies; 2 of them for two children from the Gaza Strip, who received treatment in the hospitals in Israel and the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, after Israeli authorities refused the return of their bodies to Gaza via Erez Crossing.

PCHR, despite the Israeli systematic practices and their insistence on exacerbating Gaza patient’s suffering  and depriving them of travel for treatment, will continue its work and its legal struggle in order to grant Gaza patients their right to receive treatment and move freely, as a right guaranteed by international humanitarian law (IHL) and international human rights law (IHRL).
