Press Release

Jabr Wishah Joins the Staff of PCHR

Ref: 30/2000

Date: 28 February 2000

At the beginning of March 2000, Mr Jabr Wishah will join the staff of PCHR. Jabr Wishah is a prominent figure in the Palestinian national movement. During recent years he was one of the leaders of the national movement amongst prisoners in Israeli jails. He spent more than 15 years behind bars in Israeli occupation prisons. He was sentenced to life imprisonment as a result of his fighting for the right of the Palestinian people to self determination and independence.

Israeli occupation forces released Jabr Wishah within the context of the latest releases, on 9 September 1999. By joining the staff of the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, Jabr Wishah continues his struggle for the cause of his people to achieve the right of self determination, a right which cannot be separated from other human rights, guaranteed and secured in the International Bill of Human Rights.

Mr. Jabr Wishah’s position at PCHR will be deputy director.

PCHR believes that Jabr Wishah’s joining our staff is an important gain for the Palestinian human rights movement.
