Israeli Occupation Forces Kill Palestinian in Ramallah

Ref: 68/2022Date: 03 June 2022Time: 17:30 GMT Yesterday evening, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) killed a Palestinian child after unjustifiably opening fire at him near the annexation wall in Ramallah.Investigations conducted by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) emphasize that the child was killed unjustifiably by IOF’s fire while calm prevailed, reflecting IOF’s excessive use of force and loose shooting standards against the Palestinians. According to PCHR’s investigations, at approximately 16:20 on Thursday, 02 June 2022, IOF stationed near the annexation wall between “Hashmonaim” settlement and al-Midya village, west of Ramallah, opened fire from a distance of 150-200 meters at ‘Odah Mohammed Sedqah (17), while he was playing with his friends in the western area behind the annexation wall. As a result, Sedqah was hit with a live bullet that penetrated his back and exited the right side of his chest. He was then taken to Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.Sedqah’s friend said to PCHR’s researcher that: “we were playing in the western area close to our houses, particularly near ‘Odah’s family house, and there were no confrontations nor events.  There is also a tent where Israeli soldiers permanently station in addition to armed Israeli Border Guard officers stationed at the annexation wall. At 16:20, my friend ‘Odah told me that he wanted to leave and go back home.  At the time, I heard gunshots, and ran quickly to see ‘Odah lying on the ground and screaming. I tried to move him, but his back was bleeding. Villagers immediately arrived and took him in a private car to Ramallah Governmental Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.”‘Odah is the fourth Palestinian killed by IOF’s fire in the West Bank within less than 36 hours, indicating the growing number of premeditated murders committed by IOF without any justification.Since the beginning of 2022, IOF murdered 55 Palestinians, including 43 civilians: 13 children, 5 women (one was a journalist) and the rest were activists; 3 of them were assassinated. Meanwhile, 841 Palestinians were injured, including 84 children,4 women and 19 journalists.  All of them are residents of the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, except for 9 fishermen in the Gaza Strip.PCHR reiterates its call upon the international community to take immediate action to end Israeli occupation’s crimes, and its call upon the ICC Prosecutor to investigate the situation in Palestine without any delay similar to its prompt action in Ukraine.  PCHR also demand the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention fulfil their obligations as per Common Article 1 of the Convention, “undertake to respect and to ensure respect for the present Convention in all circumstances.” PCHR also calls upon the High Contracting Parties to uphold their commitment to Article 146 of the same Conventions, i.e., to hold accountable persons accused of committing grave breaches of the Convention, and to ensure protection for Palestinian civilians in the occupied territory.
