Israel Kills 33 Starving Palestinians Amid Unprecedented Hunger Levels in Gaza.

As hunger in Gaza reaches a significantly critical stage, affecting the vast majority of the population, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) continue to commit deadly mass killings near aid distribution points in areas under their control. As a result, starving civilians find themselves between two devastating choices: to die by gunfire or perish from hunger.

The latest crimes were committed by IOF this morning, 19 July 2025, near two Israeli-American aid distribution centers in the Saudi and al-Hashash neighborhoods, south of Mirage axis, northwest of Rafah. As a result, 33 Palestinians were killed and dozens more were injured.

According to eyewitness testimonies and information collected by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), at around 05:30, IOF opened fire at thousands of starving Palestinians as they walked toward two Israeli-American aid distribution centers in the Saudi and al-Hashash neighborhoods. As a result, 33 Palestinians were killed, including a woman and 3 children, while dozens of others sustained various injuries- some deemed in critical condition. Most victims were targeted near the distribution aid in al-Hashash neighborhood, northwest of Rafah.

In his testimony to PCHR’s staff, the injured ‘Ahed Maher Mohammed Abu ‘Elwan (25), from Khan Younis refugee camp, talked about what happened:

“At around 04:00, I headed with my 33-year-old brother Mohammed and two neighbors, Fayez and Waleed Abu ‘Akar, to the distribution center near al-Tinah Street, south of Khan Younis, to obtain aid boxes. At around 05:30, while we were walking around 700-1000 meters away from the distribution center with 200 other people, we heard a voice via loudspeaker shouting, “Come out Mahmoud” and the voice repeated many times. Suddenly, fire was opened on us, and I saw explosive dumdum bullets hitting people around me. As a result, my brother Mohammed was wounded in the abdomen while Fayez Abu ‘Akar was wounded in his leg as well as Waleed Abu ‘Akar while I sustained shrapnel wounds all over my body. afterwards, a tank and two military SUVs advanced toward us, followed by Israeli soldiers who continued firing at us. As Fayez lay on the ground beside me, he was shot again—this time in the mouth.Minutes later, Fayez died from his injuries, and the soldiers then called us to raise our hands and never come back. We stood up and hardly walked with the help of other people. They carried me and my brother Mohammed into a tuk-tuk that took us to Naser Hospital in Khan Younis. Fayez Abu ‘Akar and his wounded relative Waleed were taken in another tuk-tuk. Doctors described my wounds as moderate while my brother Mohammed’s wound was serious as he was hit with 4 bullets in the upper body.”

In his testimony, 33-year-old wounded Ahmed Ibrahim Mohammed al-Qarra (33), currently displaced in Mawasi Khan Younis, described the events as follows:

“At around 22:00 on Friday, I headed with 3 relatives to al-Tinah Street, southern Khan Younis and at around 01:00, we arrived there. We waited for the distribution center to open. While waiting with others, we heard intermittent gunfire, so we paused and only resumed walking once it stopped. At around 05:30, we were around 700 meters away from the distribution center when insane gunfire occurred. As a result, I was struck by a bullet in the right foot and fell on the ground screaming in pain. Many other young men were wounded as well around me. Suddenly, I heard the roar of a tank approaching. Some young men helped evacuate me and other injured individuals in a tuk-tuk to Naser Hospital in Khan Younis. I am now awaiting an x-ray for my foot to assess my wound and if there is a fracture or not.”

PCHR has collected dozens of testimonies from individuals, including its own staff members, describing the difficulties they face due to the depletion of flour and most alternative food supplies. The majority reported they leave early every morning wandering through the streets, markets and displacement camps in a desperate search for flour. However, at the end of the day they return empty-handed.

PCHR warns that the Gaza Strip is on the verge of an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe as thousands and potentially tens of thousands of civilians are facing imminent risk of death due to deadly hunger in the coming days.

PCHR underscores that according to medical sources, the health consequences of malnutrition have affected the vast majority of the population. Over the past few days, PCHR has monitored a significant surge in cases of exhaustion, pallor and people collapsing in the streets. Moreover, dozens of individuals are arriving at hospital emergency departments complaining severe fatigue and weakness. As a result, the Ministry of Health has warned that hundreds of people, whose bodies have become severely emaciated, are now at heightened risk of imminent death due to starvation and their body’s declining ability to endure.

PCHR holds the international community, including all relevant agencies, fully and directly responsible, and calls for an immediate and effective intervention to stop the ongoing genocidal policy of starvation. It urges the international community to compel Israel to open crossings, allow the unrestricted and immediate entry of all supplies, ensure the establishment of safe humanitarian corridors, and hold all the perpetrators accountable for these crimes that are threatening the extermination of an entire generation.Bottom of Form
