Colonel in the Palestinian police killed carrying out his duties.

This morning, 25 august 1999, Colonel Hani Abu Zenah died at Soroka Hospital in Beer Sheva. Colonel Abu Zenah was in charge of the operation room in Rafah police station. The Colonel received fatal head injuries on 23 August 1999 in the course of his duty, while intervening to stop a violent confrontation between two families in the area of Tal al Sultan, Rafah. The injuries resulted from an attack by one of the offenders. He had attended the incident after he was summoned by one of the two families to help in settling the violent confrontation.
PCHR expresses its deep sorrow for the Colonel’s death and condemns the attack on him. Citizens should respect law enforcement agencies and those who are responsible for this crime must be brought before the civil judiciary according to the rule of law.
