Press Release
The Israeli Occupation Forces Continue their Aggression
Against Palestinian Civilians
Ref: 112/2000
Date: October 2, 2000
Time: 13:00 GMT
The Israeli occupation forces are continuing shooting towards Palestinian civilians throughout the Palestinian occupied territories. Moreover, clashes extended to include Palestinian cities and villages inside the “Green Line,” as they witnessed clashes with the Israeli occupying forces, which intervened to oppress protests to the killings in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. As a result, more Palestinian civilians were killed and dozens were injured in various areas. Since today morning, Shefa’ and Nasser hospitals in the Gaza Strip has received more than 40 people who were injured in clashes with the Israeli occupation forces.
Today noon, Mahmoud Ghazi El-Nabeeh, 29 years old from Gaza, and Salah Abdullah Abu Qeinas, 23 years old from Gaza, were pronounced dead in Shefa’ Hospital in the Gaza Strip. In the meantime, Ahmed Ibrahim El-Jabarin was pronounced dead Um El-Fahem inside the Green Line, thus the number of city’s victims who were killed in the clashes increased to 3 people. In addition, Riadh Khaled El-Gharrah was declared dead in the Triangle area, in side the Green Line also. Moreover, Hatem El-Najjar, 22 years old who was a member of the Palestinian Liaison Forces was declared dead in Jericho. Thus, the number of victims of Israeli aggression during the last 5 days increases to 32 martyrs and more than 1,000 injuries (a list of martyrs is enclosed herewith).
In the meanwhile, Israeli helicopters are throwing tear gas cans towards Palestinian demonstrators at the crossroads of Al-Shuhada’ near Netzarim Settlement in the middle area of Gaza Strip. PCHR’s field observers have informed that the Israeli occupation forces have just bombed a housing building (Tower 2 of Al-Shuhada’ Towers) near the Israeli military outpost near the crossroads of Nitsarim settlement; the third and fourth floors of the building have been directly targeted.
Upon a call by PCHR and LAW Society, a mission of four international organizations is expected to arrive tomorrow, to investigate the Israeli crimes. Today, PCHR has sent a message to UN Special Rapporteur to the occupied territories, calling him to promptly visit the region to investigate the Israeli occupation forces’ crimes against Palestinian citizens.
