On Wednesday, 19 July 2017, The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) received the Spanish Consul General in Jerusalem, Rafael Matos de Careaga, and his Deputy Consul General, Eduardo Narbona.  The Spanish delegate met with PCHR’s Director, Raji Sourani, and PCHR’s Deputy Director for Program Affairs.

The meeting reviewed the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).  It focused on the Gaza Strip situation, including the illegal and inhumane closure imposed by the Israeli forces for the tenth consecutive year as a collective punishment against 2 million people.  During the meeting, Sourani stressed the closure is a man-made crisis which destructively affect all life aspects.  He also emphasized that the international community should intervene to stop the Israeli practices.

It should be mentioned that PCHR has important and strategic partnerships with the Spanish Agency for International Development and other Spanish civil society organizations.

PCHR also received yesterday, 18 July 2017, James Heenan, Head of OHCHR office in the oPt and Tariq Mukheimer, Human Rights officer in Gaza.  The delegation met with Raji Sourani, PCHR’s Director, and reviewed the human rights situation in the oPt, particularly the illegal closure imposed on the Gaza Strip.
