PCHR Receives Director of Middle East and North Africa Program in the International Center for Transitional Justice

On Tuesday morning, 30 June 2009, PCHR received Ms. Anne Massagee, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Program in the International Center for Transitional Justice. This visit mainly aimed at promoting and reinforcing cooperation between both centers.

The visitor met with Mr. Raji Sourani, Director of PCHR, who detailed developments related to the human rights situations in the Gaza Strip, highlighting the continuous suffering of the civilian population to the Israeli siege, war crimes and human rights violations.

Moreover, the visitor met with the Iyad Alami, Director of PCHR’s Legal Aid Unit, and the unit’s staff.  The meeting discussed a number of legal files which are followed up on behalf of Palestinian victims.

It is worth noting that the International Center for Transitional Justice is an international NGO that seeks to provide assistance to communities and countries, which seek to find a way for accountability for serious crimes relevant to human rights perpetrated in the past. This centre carries out activities in communities that were under oppressive regimes or armed struggle, as well as in democratic countries which suffers from historical injustice or systematic human rights violations that not have not yet been settled.
