On
Monday, 06 April 2015, the Democratic Development Unit (DDU) of the Palestinian
Center for Human Rights (PCHR) organized a workshop on democracy in the Earth
and Human Center for Research and Studies (EHCRS). The workshop was attended by
17 law students, including 10 female ones, in EHCRS head office.

The
workshop addressed a number of topics related to democracy. The participants
discussed the significance of democracy as a regime, indicators of the
existence of democratic governance and the extent to which these indicators are
available in the Palestinian context. The participants discussed the topics and
if they were applicable in the Palestinian and Arab situations. The workshop
was facilitated by Mohammed Abu Hashem, a legal researcher.

This
workshop came in the context of the DDU’s efforts to promote democracy concepts
in the Palestinian community through discussion and
constructive dialogue with the different
society sectors especially youth to
pave
the way for the establishment of a Palestinian democratic state in which
the principles of good governance, citizenship
and civil peace are prevalent. It should be noted that DDU annually implements
in cooperation with the grassroots organizations and youth groups dozens of
workshops to raise awareness of democracy concepts and their relation with
human rights.
