PCHR Organizes the 1st in a Series of Training Courses on Women’s Rights

 

On Sunday, 29 June 2007, PCHR started the first in a series of training courses dedicated to women’s rights and gender. The course is being held at PCHR’s sub-office in Khan Yunis from 29 June to 3 July 2008, totaling 20 training hours, for 20 activists representing 8 civil society organizations in Khan Yunis.

 

Mr. Bassam al-Aqra’, Director of PCHR Training Unit, pointed that the course includes special sessions on women’s rights derived from the convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women. Topics include the historical development of the convention; the concept of discrimination; state responsibilities towards women; women’s legal rights; political participation; women’s social and economic rights; The United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women; gender; and the death penalty.

 

In his opening speech at the course, Mr. ‘Abdul Halim Abu Samra, Public Relations Officer at PCHR’s sub-office in Khan Yunis, welcomed the participants and briefed them on PCHR and its activities. He also wished that they would make use of the knowledge they acquire in the course.

 

The training is conducted by a team of specialized trainers from PCHR and from outside PCHR.
