PCHR Organizes a Training Course on Human Rights, Democracy, and Gender in Deir El-Balah

On Monday, 6 November 2006, PCHR’s Training Unit launched a training course on human rights, democracy, and gender in coordination with the Deir El-Balah Service Club and the Peace Garden Association in Deir El-Balah. The course targets staff members from 6 civil society organizations in Deir El-Balah.

The course is held in the Deir El-Balah Service Club, and will run over a 4-day period from 6-9 November 2006 with a total of 16 training hours. Twenty trainees from the participating organizations are attending the course.

The training course topics include three main components of international human rights: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Convention on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights, and the Convention on Civil and Political Rights. In addition, the course discusses the Second Optional Protocol Additional to the Convention on Civil and Economic Rights pertaining to the abolition of the death penalty, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women, gender issues, the rule of law, and the independence of the Judiciary.

The trainers are specialized professionals from PCHR utilizing various techniques encouraging discussion and active participation.
