The Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Unit
of the Palestinian Centre for Human rights (PCHR) organized 2 lectures on
monitoring and reporting mechanisms on grave violations against children in
times of armed conflicts. The two
lectures targeted activists, members of political factions and representatives
of governmental organizations in the Gaza Strip.
On Wednesday, 27 February 2013, a lecture was
organized in PCHR’s head office in Gaza City, where 19 employees of Ministry of
Social Affairs attended. Mr. Azzam
Sha’ath, a researcher in the Unit, talked about the guidelines of the monitoring
and reporting mechanisms in accordance with the 2005 UN Security Council
Resolution (1612). On Wednesday, 13
February 2013, the unit organized a lecture in which Khalil Shahin, Director of
the unit, addressed the reporting and monitoring mechanisms on grave violations
against children in times of armed conflicts.
The lecture was held in the Popular Struggle Front’s office in Khan
Yunis, where 23 members of political powers in the Gaza Strip attended.
It should be mentioned that the two lectures
are part of a project implemented by PCHR and funded by UNICEF. The project is titled “Promoting Capacity
Building on Mechanisms of Protecting Children’s Rights in Times of Armed
Conflicts” and targets governmental and non-governmental organizations and political
factions interested in protecting child’s rights.
