The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) has launched the fifth term of the Bertha Justice Fellowship Program implmeneted by PCHR and funded by Bertha Foundation in London.
On Thursday morning, 09 September 2021, Raji Sourani, PCHR’s Director, and Suheir Kharma, the Program Coordinator, welcomed new six trainee lawyers. The meeting introduced the lawyers to PCHR’s work and how they will take part in the Legal Unit’s work. They will be trained according to a specialized program in the field of international human rights law and international criminal law to enhance their knowledge of PCHR’s legal framworks; guarantee their effective, genuine and fruitful engagement; and prepare them to use the international mechanisms (Universal Jurisdiction and International Criminal Court). This falls under a strategic plan to promote young lawyers’ engagement all over the world in defending human rights and justice.
It should be noted that the Bertha Justice Fellowship Iniative is a a two-year program striving for a more just world where rule of law prevails by supporing human rights activists, humanterian storytellers and human rights lawyers to achieve socio-economic justice and human rights for all.
PCHR’s relation with Bertha Foundation dates back to 2013 and throught this partnership, Bertha Doundation has endeavored all efforts to support PCHR, particularly in its efforts to end the climate of impunity enjoyed by war criminals, and towards achieving accountability for all the violations of the international humanterian law. This includes support for PCHR’s work before the International Criminal Court. Meanwhile, PCHR’s lawyers pass their accumulated experience to the new generation of lawyers.
Since its inception, 18 young lawyers took part in the program and were awarded the Bertha Justice Fellowship.
