PCHR Is Gravely Concerned for the Death of a Palestinian Child by a Projectile

At approximately 08:00 on Saturday, 1 January 2005, a projectile launched by members of the Palestinian resistance hit by mistake Mithqal Mahmoud Abu Zaher’s house at al-Sikka Street in Jabalya.  As a result, the owner’s daughter, 11-year-old Ibtihal, was killed and his son, 14-year old Maker, was moderately injured by shrapnel from the projectile.

PCHR is gravely concerned for such actions, which threatens the lives of innocent civilians, and calls for ensuring their security and safety in all circumstances. PCHR points out that projectiles were repeatedly launched from inside civilian areas or neighboring areas, which posed unjustified direct threats to the lived of civilians.  PCHR has documented a number of such incidents in which Palestinians civilians were injured, but this latest incident was the first to cause a civilian death.
