PCHR Holds a Human Rights Training Course in Khan Yunis

On 26 June 2006, PCHR’s Training Unit began a training course on gender and human rights.  The course is being held in coordination with ten civil society organizations in Khan Yunis.  Participants from these organizations are attending the course, which is being held at PCHR’s Khan Yunis branch.

Abdel Halim Abu Samra, PCHR’s public relations officer in Khan Yunis, opened the training course by welcoming the participants and giving a briefing about PCHR and its activities.

The training course will run from 26 to 29 June 2006 and will include 16 hours of training.  Thirty participants are attending.  The course will cover a number of international human rights documents, including the Universal Declaration on Human Rights; the Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights; the Covenant on Civil and Political Rights; the Covenant on the Rights of the Child; and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.  In addition, the course will discuss gender issues; the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which seeks the abolition of the death penalty; and the principles of the rule of law and independence of the judiciary.

The trainers are specialized professionals from PCHR.  Training methods vary but concentrate on participant interaction and discussion.
