PCHR Holds a Human Rights and Gender Training Course in Khan Yunis
On 29 June 2006, PCHR’s Training Unit completed a training course on gender and human rights, held in coordination with ten civil society organizations in Khan Yunis. Participants from these organizations attended the course.
The training course was held from 26 to 29 June 2006 and included 16 hours of training. Thirty-four trainees from the participating organizations attended. The course covered a number of international human rights documents. These included the Universal Declaration on Human Rights; the Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights; the Covenant on Civil and Political Rights; the Covenant on the Right of the Child; and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. In addition, the course discussed gender issues; the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which is aimed at the abolition of the death penalty; and the principles of rule of law and independence of the judiciary.
The trainers were specialized professionals from PCHR. The training methods used varied but concentrated on participant interaction and discussion.
At the end of the course, certificates were distributed to the participants, who commended PCHR for spreading human rights awareness.
