On 24 October 2026, Raji Sourani, Director of the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), received the Jesús Vicente Chamorro Human Rights Award during the 40th Congress of Spain’s Progressive Union of Prosecutors (Unión Progresista de Fiscales—UPF), held in Granada.
PCHR warmly congratulates its Director on this recognition of his longstanding commitment to defending Palestinian rights, upholding international law, and pursuing justice for victims.
The award follows Sourani’s receipt of the International Hrant Dink Award in Istanbul in September 2026 and PCHR’s receipt of the Kim Bok-dong Award by the South Korean civil society in June 2026, adding to international recognition of PCHR since the sanctions by the Trump Adminstration were imposed in September 2025 and the International Human Rights Award for the Institutional Category from the Spanish Association for Human Rights in November 2025, which was received in partnership with Al-Haq and the Al-Mezan Center for Human Rights, the two other organizations also targeted by the US sanctions.
This recognition also conveys solidarity with the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory as they face genocide, ethnic cleansing, and efforts to uproot them from their land by destroying the conditions necessary for life and making their continued presence impossible at a time when States continue to fail to take concrete action to protect the Palestinian people.
The solidarity expressed by members of the international legal community sends an important message: defending victims and seeking accountability for international crimes must be supported and protected, not sanctioned.
While presented to Sourani individually, PCHR regards this award as recognition of the collective efforts of its staff, whose courage and dedication sustain its work under extraordinarily difficult circumstances.
PCHR expresses its appreciation to the Progressive Union of Prosecutors for this recognition and its solidarity. The Centre reaffirms its determination to continue documenting violations, defending victims, and pursuing accountability for international crimes committed against the Palestinian people.
