Upon invitation from
the Japanese organization Human Rights Now (HRN), Raji Sourani, Director of the
Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), embarked on a visit to Japan today,
19 May 2010. In the course of this
visit, Sourani will participate as a special speaker in several lectures
organized by HRN at a number of Japanese universities.
The visit is scheduled
to last for 10 days. Sourani will
deliver three lectures on the human rights situation in the Occupied
Palestinian Territory (OPT) in general and in the Gaza Strip in
particular. He will also discuss the
relevant international law applicable to the Palestinian case. Sourani will give presentations at the
University of Tokyo, Kyoto University and at Saint Paul’s University.
According to the
schedule of the visit, the PCHR Director will also meet with Diet Members,
academics and lawyers. He will also be
interviewed by a number of Japanese television and radio stations, and meet
journalists and other media representatives.
It should be noted that
HRN is a Japanese human rights organization established in July 2006, which
implements activities locally and internationally in order protect human rights
and eliminate human rights abuses across the world.
