PCHR Condemns the Killing of President’s Advisor in Gaza

PCHR strongly condemns the killing of Khalil Mohammed Khalil al-Zeben, 59, an advisor at the Palestinian President’s Office in Gaza city, by unknown individuals on Tuesday morning, 2 March 2004.

According to preliminary investigations conducted by PCHR, at approximately 01:30 on Tuesday, undercover armed individuals got out of a civilian car and fired with machine guns at al-Zeben while he was leaving his office in al-Sabra neighborhood in Gaza city.  Al-Zeben was instantly killed by several live bullets, and the perpetrators were able to escape.  No further details are available.

PCHR is gravely concerned that this killing may have been committed for political or personal considerations.  Resorting to the use of weapons for such considerations threatens the security and stability of the society and undermines the rule of law.  PCHR calls upon the Palestinian authority, particularly the Attorney General, to investigate this incident, search for the perpetrators, and bring them to justice.
