On Thursday, 22 May 2014,
the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) concluded a workshop on political
participation and the role of media, in cooperation with the Southern
Journalists’ Forum in Rafah. Twenty
journalists and media activists attended the workshop, where they discussed the
forms and importance of political participation as well as the protection of
this right which is prescribed under the international and domestic laws.
Mohammed Abu Hashim, a researcher at PCHR, facilitated the workshop.
This workshop is part of
the continued efforts exerted by PCHR’s Democratic Development Unit (DDU) to
promote the concepts of democracy and human rights in the Palestinian
community. The DDU has implemented 13 workshops since the beginning of the year
targeting more than 250 persons. These workshops have addressed political
participation, freedom of expression, the legislative process and parliamentary
monitoring, democracy and regimes, transitional justice in Palestine, and the
death penalty.
