On Thursday, 09 September 2021, the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) concluded a training course on “The Concepts of Women’s Rights and Mechanisms of Intervention and Protection to Combat Violence against Women,” with the participation of 25 students from 3 Palestinian universities in the Gaza Strip. The 20-hour course was held from 06-09 September 2021.
The training program included many topics in the field of human rights and women’s rights in particular, in addition to issues relevant to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and means of intervention and providing legal protection for women who are victims of violence.
At the end of the course, PCHR organized a closing ceremony where Abdul Halim Abu Samra, Director of PCHR’s Training Unit, emphasized PCHR’s specialized work through the Women’s Rights Unit on promoting human rights across the Palestinian society. In addition to building a young generation that is aware of their basic rights and freedoms and have the capability to defend them, and also has a role in building a democratic society based on respecting human rights.
Abu Samra added that this training is part of PCHR’s long-term efforts in capacity building for university students in order to increase their legal awareness and knowledge of human rights, to build a new generation able to spread the concepts of human rights and defend their rights. Moreover, they have to disseminate the culture of human rights in general and women’s rights in particular among their peers and in their colleges, until reaching a society that respects women’s rights and eliminate violence against women, stressing that PCHR’s doors will always be open for them to benefit from its expertise.
For their part, the participants emphasized that the training course brought them new knowledge, with the rich topics it addressed and its contribution to raising their awareness on human rights. They also commended the competence of the trainers and the participatory and diverse training methodology, calling for m more training courses that target university students.
At the end of the course, all participants received certificates.
