PCHR Concludes the Second in a Series of Training Courses on Women’s Rights
Today, PCHR’s Training Unit has concluded a training course on “Women’s Rights and Gender.” The course started on 22 November 2005. Twenty-two women from 8 organizations working in the field of women’s rights in Khan Yunis have attended the course, which has consisted of 21 training hours. The course program has concentrated on women’s rights ensured by the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. Training topics have included the concept of discrimination; women’s legal rights; women’s economic, social, and cultural rights; States’ responsibilities towards women; women’s political participation; violence against women; and the concept of gender.
A professional team of PCHR trainers has managed the training sessions. They have encouraged participation and dialogue throughout the course.
At the course’s closing ceremony, Mr. Jaber Weshah, Deputy Director of PCHR; Mr. Bassam al-Aqra’, Director of Training Unit, and Mr. ‘Abdul Halim Abu Samra, Public Relations Officer in Khan Yunis office handed certificates to the trainees. In his closing speech, Mr. Weshah stressed the importance of these specialized courses for women as a means of rasing their awareness of their rights. He stated that this awareness in a prerequisite for women to demand their rights. He further informed the participants that PCHR is ready to provide women with the full range of its services, especially during these stressful times.
