PCHR Concludes the 4th Training Course on Human Rights, Democracy, and Gender for Youth Leaders
On Thursday, 23 November 2006, PCHR’s Training Unit has concluded a training course on human rights, democracy, and gender. The target group of the course was staff members of 18 civil society organizations in Rafah.
The course was held at offices of Sharek Youth Forum in Rafah. It began on 19 November 2006, and 35 trainees participated in it.
The training course topics include three main components of the international human rights bill: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Convention on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights, and Convention on Civil and Political Rights. In addition, the course discussed the Second Optional Protocol Additional to the Convention on Civil and Economic Rights pertaining to the abolition of the death penalty, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women, gender issues, the rule of law, and the independence of the Judiciary.
The trainers are specialized professionals from PCHR utilizing various techniques encouraging discussion and active participation.
At the end of the course, the participants obtained certificates of participation.
This course has been the fourth of its kind for youth leaders throughout the Gaza Strip; 97 staff members of 27 civil society organizations have participated in these courses.
