On Saturday,
21 February 2013, the Training Unit of the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights
(PCHR) concluded the second training of trainers course in human rights, which
is part of a 2-year project funded by the European Union (EU). The 35-hour training course was held in the
Light House Restaurant in Gaza City in the period 15 – 21 February 2015. Twenty-six participants representing 12
active community-based organizations all over the Gaza Strip attended the
course.
Dr. Bassam Abu
Hashish, who implemented the course, said that the training content of the
course was divided into five training days.
The first training day addressed the basics of training, including
concept and characteristics, components, philosophy of teaching adults and
differences between teaching and training.
The second day included the psychology of perception and communication
skills in addition to the qualities of an effective trainer. The third day focused on the life cycle of
training, including determining the training needs and goals, preparing the
training content and evaluating the training.
The fourth day addressed training techniques and method, the concept,
classification and selection criteria in addition to the means of training,
including factors of selection, benefits, types and use. Finally, the fifth day focused on practical
applications.
A team of
specialized trainers supervised the training sessions. The team included Dr. Bassam Abu Hashish, Professor of
Educational Administration in al-Aqsa University, Mr. Ya’aqub Hijo, Training Adviser at the Ministry of
Education and Mr. Bassam al-Aqra’, Director of PCHR’s Training Unit.
Mr. Bassam
al-Aqra’, Director of PCHR Training Unit, stated that this course is part of a
project funded by the EU entitled “Promoting Human Rights and Freedom of
Access to Information in the Gaza Strip”.
Al-Aqra asserted that this course is the second of 4 training courses
implemented by PCHR within the project aimed to create a generation of youth
trainers in the field of human rights for 45 active community-based
organizations all over the Gaza Strip.
Al-Aqra’ called upon the trainers to move towards practice each in
his/her organization. Al-Aqra also
emphasized that the relation between PCHR and trainees and their organizations
will not end by the end of the training course; however, it will be
enhanced. He added that PCHR’s doors are
always open to them to benefit from PCHR’s experience in this field.
At the
conclusion of the course, the participants highly appreciated PCHR’s efforts to
create new generation of youth trainers in the field of human rights. In the name of the participants, Dr. Ibrahim
Mo’amer thanked PCHR for its distinctive role in disseminating the culture of
human rights in the Palestinian society.
He added that the course gave them new knowledge and skills in training
as its program was comprehensive. He
also praised the efficient trainers and their various and interactive training
procedures which were used during the course, and explained that the effective
participation and the discussion that prevailed in the training sessions
contributed in the enrichment of the course. However, he requested that more
courses like this should be organized as they will help organizations to
implement their awareness programs in areas where they are active. He also promised to use the knowledge, skills
and experiences he earned during the course while implementing the programs of
the organization he is active in.
All
participants received certificates at the end of the day.
