PCHR Concludes Eleventh Course for this Year on “Human Rights and Mechanisms to Promote Right to Health”

On Wednesday, 07 December 2022, the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) concluded the eleventh course on “Human Rights and Mechanisms to Promote Right to Health”. Twenty-eight members of the blood bank technicians at the Ministry of Health (MOH) participated. The 20-hour course was held from 29 November to 07 December 2022 in Gaza City.

 

These training courses are held under “Promote, Respect, and Fulfill the Right to the Highest Attainable Standard of Health in the Gaza Strip” project implemented by PCHR in partnership with the Palestinian Medical Relief Society (PMRS) and funded by the European Union. The project aims to improve access to healthcare, legal counseling, and legal assistance for Palestinian patients; to mainstream the culture of international human rights and humanitarian law, particularly the right to health, by building the capacities of those working in the health sector and right to health activists; and to promote improved monitoring, documenting, and reporting of violations of the right to health.

At the end of the two courses, PCHR held a closing ceremony, where Mr. ‘Abdulhaleem Abu Samra, Head of PCHR’s Training Unit, explained that this course fall within series of PCHR’s training courses aimed at mainstreaming concepts of the right to health for medical staff, strengthening their role in providing healthcare for everyone. Abu Samra hopes that this course would contribute to raising the level of healthcare services to citizens, stressing the importance of working with preventive methods through spreading awareness among those working in the health sector on one hand, and citizens on the other hand.

 

For his part, Mr. Isma’il Abu Jazar, the Supervisor on PMRS’s Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Program, emphasized that the contribution with PCHR will continue to expand the target base of the medical staff in issues of the right tot health, calling on the participants to benefit from the topics to the Course to enhance their capabilities and raise their efficiency in order to build healthcare cadre able to provide medical assistance in accordance with human rights principles.

 

Dr. ‘Ameed Mushtaha, Director of the Department of Laboratories and Blood Banks in the Palestinian Ministry of Health (MOH) in Gaza, stressed the importance of this cooperation with PCHR in training technicians and specialists in laboratories and blood banks at MOH. He hoped that such courses would target more numbers of blood bank technicians with the purpose of promoting their human rights concept and their knowledge of the right to health concepts, ensuring the protection and safety of health workers as a fundamental matter for a strong health care system that provides the best and finest medical service for all.

 

For their part, the participants commended the course, which was characterized with its rich topics and contributed to raising their awareness on human rights in general and the right to health in particular, which will be positively reflected in their provision of medical services to citizens, expressing their hope that more advanced courses will be held related to this field.
