On 01 September 2013, the Democratic
Development Unit (DDU) of the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) concluded
a series of workshops on democracy in cooperation with the General Personnel
Council in Gaza. 20 participants
attended in each workshop from various ministries operating in the Gaza Strip. The series, which were facilitated by
Mohammed Abu Hashem, a DDU researcher, included 6 workshops and addressed
several subjects: the political participation; governance and democracy in
Palestine; legitimate restrictions imposed on the freedom of opinion and
expression; abolishment of the death penalty; legislative process;
parliamentary oversight; and transitional justice in Palestine.
It should be noted that the DDU held many
workshops in cooperation with various associations operating in the Gaza
Strip. Of those associations were: the
Earth and Human Centre for Studies and Researches; Palestinian Institute for
Communication and Development; Dar al-Shabab Association for Culture and
Development; Palestine University’s Law Club; National Youth Association
(Benaa’); College of Dar-al-Da’wa; and Youth and Environment Center. The DDU organized 48 workshops, which were
attended by around 1000 participants.
