PCHR, AOHR and FIDH Conclude Training Course in Cairo Targeting Activists of the Yemeni Civil Society

 


On Wednesday, 15 February
2012, the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), the Arab Organization for
Human Rights (AOHR) and the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) concluded
a training course on human rights and justice mechanisms to activists of the
Yemeni civil society.


The 4-day training course (29 training hours) took in Cairo between
12 and 15 February 2012 with 35 participants in attendance.  The
participants represented 19 organizations that are active in Yemen.

 

In his concluding speech, Mr. Alaa Shalabi, Secretary General of
AOHR, thanked the Yemeni organizations that continued to arrangements and
preparations for the course.  He further
thanked the participants for their commitment and their interaction in the
courses, which contributed to their enrichment and vitality.

 

Mr. Raji Soaurani, Director of PCHR, President of AOHR’s Board of
Trustees and Vice President of FIDH, congratulated the participants for their
distinguished persistence and activeness. 
He stated that this course is part of the three organizations’
contribution to the dissemination of the human rights culture in the Arab
societies, building their capacity to confront crimes committed against them
and ensuring holding the perpetrators accountable. 

 

Mr. Izziddin al-Asbahai, Director of Human Right Information and
Training Center in Yemen, appreciated the role of the three organizations in
the dissemination of the culture of prosecution of war criminals and combating
impunity in the Arab World.  He stressed
the need to hold such courses given that the participants highly benefited of
the course. 

 

Mr. Nabil Abdul Hafiz, Director of the Social Democratic Forum,
called on the participants to transfer what they have learnt from the
theoretical level into practice, considering the course as a strategic
step. 

 

It is worth noting the training was provided by distinguished
trainers and experts: Mr. Raji Sourani, Director of PCHR; Mr. Mahmoud Qandil,
from AOHR; Mr. Izziddin al-Asbahi, Director of Human Rights Information and
Training Center; Mr. Nabil Abdul Hafiz, Director of Social Democratic Forum;
Mr. Islam Abu al-Ainain, an AOHR researcher; and Mr. Bassam al-Aqra, Director
of PCHR Training Unit.
