Palestinian Killed and 3 Injured, including a Woman, in Security Chaos Incidents

Mohammad El-Dumeide from the town of Huwara near Nablus was killed and 3 Palestinians, including a woman, from Rafah were injured in 3 incidents of security chaos and misuse of weapons that continue to plague the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

PCHR’s preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 21:30 on Friday, 24 August 2007, an argument broke out between Dawoud Mohammad Dawoud El-Dumeidi (24) from Huwara, south of Nablus, and a gunman who fired his gun near El-Dumeidi during a wedding in the town. El-Dumeidi left the wedding with his father and brother. However, the gunman followed them and fired at their vehicle. El-Dumeidi was instantly killed by a bullet in the back. The Palestinian police opened an investigation into the incident.

In another incident at approximately 21:00 on Friday, Ibrahim Mohammad Abu Daba’ (32) was moderately injured by a bullet from an unknown source in his left shoulder. At the time, he was on the roof of a neighbor’s house in El-Juneina Quarter in Rafah. He was taken to Mohammad Yusef El-Najjar Hospital for treatment. Abu Daba’ informed PCHR’s fieldworker that he did not hear any gunshots when he was injured.

And at approximately 16:30 on Wednesday, 22 August 2007, Hazem Mahmoud El-Shiekh and his wife Maha Samir El-Sheikh were moderately injured by shrapnel from the explosion of a hand grenade in their house in Tal El-Sultan Quarter in Rafah. Hazem was injured in the abdomen, left hand, and left leg; and his wife was injured in the face and left hand. They were taken to Mohammad Yusef El-Najjar Hospital for treatment. Hazem’s brother stated that the grenade fell from a cloth closet that the couple were arranging.

PCHR is concerned over the continued falling of victims by security chaos in the OPT. The Centre calls upon the PNA, represented by the Attorney-General, to investigate these incidents, to prosecute the perpetrators, and to take action to prevent their recurrence.
