Palestinian High Court of justice set decide on release of PFLP leader
Ref.: 73/2002
Date: June 1, 2002
According to a letter from the Attorney General to PCHR, The Palestinian High Court of justice will on 3 June decide whether to release the Secretary General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), Ahmed Sa’adat. PCHR is in corporation with other lawyers representing Ahmed Sa’adat.
The Palestinian High Court on 8 May issued a temporary decision committing the Palestinian General Intelligence Service, represented by the Attorney General, to clarify the reasons for the arrest of Ahmed Sa’adat. The Attorney General was granted 8 days to reply to the order. The High Court decision came in response to a request submitted by PCHR, represented by lawyers Raji Sourani and Iyad ‘Alami, lawyers ‘Abdul Rahman Abu al-Nasser, and Head of the Palestinian Bar Association, Younis al-Jaru and Rebhi Qatamesh.
Sa’adat was arrested by the Palestinian Security Forces on 15 January 2002. He was detained in the Muqata’a prison in Ramallah. On 1 May 2002 he was transferred to the Muqata’a prison in Jericho.
PCHR renew its call for the Palestinian National Authority to resist Israeli and American pressure to violate human rights and to immediately release Ahmed Sa’adat and all political detainees arrested without charges, in order to uphold the rule of law and human rights.
