Yesterday evening, a Palestinian succumbed to wounds he sustained by Israeli Occupation Forces’ (IOF) fire at Jaba’ village entrance, southern Jenin. This crime reflects IOF’s excessive use of force and loose shooting standards against the Palestinians despite no threat or danger immense to soldiers’ lives.
According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 14:30 on Sunday, 03 July 2022, medical personnel at Ibn Sinai Specialized Hospital in Jenin announced that Kamel ‘Abdullah Kamel ‘Alawnah (18) died after succumbing to live bullet wounds in his abdomen and right hand on Saturday, 02 July 2022.
PCHR’s fieldworker reported that IOF established a military checkpoint on Jenin-Nablus Street at the entrance to Jaba’ village, south of Jenin, so Palestinians gathered and threw stones at IOF’s vehicles at the checkpoint. Clashes broke out, and IOF fired live bullets and teargas canisters at the protestors. As a result, ‘Alawnah was injured and then taken in very critical condition to Ibn Sinai Specialized Hospital in Jenin. He stayed at the hospital until his death was pronounced on Sunday evening. Also, many Palestinians suffocated due to teargas inhalation and received treatment on the spot.
Since the beginning of 2022, IOF murdered 65 Palestinians, including 45 civilians: 14 children, 5 women (one was a journalist Sherin Abu ‘Aqlah), a Palestinian stabbed by an Israeli settler and the rest were activists; 6 of them were assassinated. Also, hundreds of Palestinians were injured.
PCHR reiterates its call upon the international community to take immediate action to end Israeli occupation’s crimes and double standards when it comes to international law. PCHR also urges the ICC Prosecutor in particularly to act seriously with regard to the situation in Palestine similar to its prompt action in Ukraine. PCHR also demands the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention fulfil their obligations as per Common Article 1 of the Convention, “undertake to respect and to ensure respect for the present Convention in all circumstances,” and their obligations under Article 146 of the same Conventions, i.e., to hold accountable persons accused of committing grave breaches of the Convention, and to ensure protection for Palestinian civilians in the occupied territory.
