Yesterday in the evening, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) killed a Palestinian child, and wounded 3 other Palestinians; one was arrested, after opening fire at them during clashes at the main entrance to ‘Aboud village, northwest of Ramallah. This is the fourth Palestinian killed within 12 hours in light of escalation of unjustified Israeli killings and assassinations in the West Bank.
According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR,) at approximately 16:00, on Thursday, 08 December 2022, a number of young men gathered at the main entrance to ‘Aboud village, northwest of Ramallah, where there is an IOF watchtower. The young men threw stones and Molotov Cocktails at the Israeli soldiers stationed near the watchtower while the soldiers fired live and rubber-coated bullets, tear gas canisters and stun grenades at the protesters. Violent clashes broke out in the area that resulted in the injury of 4 Palestinians. Two of those young men wounded were only 20 meters away from where the soldiers were stationed, and when they were got shot and fell on the ground, the soldiers immediately rushed towards them to arrest them. They took the two young men in an Israeli ambulance at around 16:30 to an Israeli hospital. About an hour and a half later, the Palestinian Liaison Office informed the Ministry of Health that one of those wounded was pronounced dead and was identified as Diaa Mohammad Shafeeq Arhameyeh (16), from Beit Rima village in Ramallah while the other injured namely Hisham Haidar Al-Rimawi (18), is under arrest at the hospital. IOF delivered Arhameyeh’s body to be then taken to the Palestine Medical Complex, where it was found out that he had been shot with 2 live bullets: one penetrated the back and chest and the other hit the abdomen. The other two wounded were transferred to the Istishari Arab Specialist Hospital in Ramallah.
PCHR reiterates its call upon the international community to take immediate action to end the Israeli occupation’s crimes and protect the Palestinian civilians. PCHR demands the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention fulfil their obligations as per Common Article 1 of the Convention, “undertake to respect and to ensure respect for the present Convention in all circumstances,” and their obligations under Article 146 of the same Conventions, i.e., to hold accountable persons accused of committing grave breaches of the Convention.
