Israeli occupation forces have continued their brutal and immoral offensive on the Gaza Strip for the 23rd consecutive day, and have continued the policy of collective punishment in disregard for the international law and humanitarian law, which ensure protection for civilians in times of war, and in violation of the principles of necessity, proportionality and distinction. Israeli forces have continued their aerial, ground and sea attacks throughout the Gaza Strip, causing more civilian casualties and damaging civilian facilities. Israeli forces escalated their attacks throughout the Gaza Strip. They attacked civilians, houses and other civilian facilities. Before a humanitarian truce entered into force this morning, Israeli forces escalated their attacks against Palestinian civilians throughout the Gaza Strip. Last night, the Israeli cabinet declared expansion of military operations in the Gaza Strip, which means expansion of incursions into the eastern part of the Gaza Strip, and escalation of aerial, ground and sea attacks throughout the Gaza Strip. Overnight and this morning, Israeli forces violently bombarded houses without prior warning, killing complete families in Rafah, Khan Yunis and the Central Gaza Strip. Israeli tanks continuously shelled Palestinian communities. Last night has been one of the worst and bloodiest nights since the beginning of the Israeli offensive. In Khan Yunis alone, 50 Palestinians, including 48 civilians, were killed. Israeli warplanes bombarded and destroyed a number of civilian facilities, houses, mosques, public institutions and media offices in Gaza City. They also bombarded and destroyed the house of the Mayor of al-Boreij in the central Gaza Strip, to which dozens of forcibly displaced civilians resorted for shelter.

PCHR field workers have been unable to collect information from border areas in the Gaza Strip, because the situation is extremely dangerous in these areas. The following details are based on the information which the field workers have been able to collect.
From 10:00 on Sunday, 27 July 2014 to 10:00 on Tuesday, 29July 2014, according to what PCHR has been able to document, 137 Palestinians, 128 of whom are civilians, including 52 children and 25 women, were killed, and 660 others, including 202 children and 124 women, were wounded. Medical crews were able to recover the bodies of 17 Palestinians, of whom 11 ones are civilians, including 4 children and 2 women. Three Palestinians, including a child and a woman, died of previous wounds. Additionally, Israeli warplanes destroyed 49 houses, 2 mosques and Gaza Power Plant. Many houses were also destroyed by Israeli artillery shelling.

The latest developments since the press release issued by PCHR yesterday noon have been as follows:

The Northern Gaza Strip:

Israeli forces launched 20 airstrikes while Israeli tanks and gunboats fired dozens of artillery shells targeting houses, open areas, agricultural plots and a mosque. As a result of these attacks, 16 Palestinians, 8 of whom are civilians, including 4 children and 2 women, were killed, and 169 others, including 58 children and 46 women, were wounded. Israeli warplanes also targeted and destroyed 5 houses.

The most significant attacks were as follows:

  • On Sunday evening, 27 July 2014, 5 members of Palestinian armed groups whose bodies were recovered on the previous day from various areas in the northern Gaza Strip were identified.
  • At approximately 11:50 on Monday, 28 July 2014, Israeli forces that had moved into the east of Jabalya opened fire at Palestinian houses in the area. As a result, Sameeh Jebril Jnaid, 5, was wounded by a bullet that entered the left arm and settled in the heart.
  • At approximately 12:30, an Israeli drone fired a missile at members of a Palestinian armed group in the east of Jabalya killing one of them.
  • At approximately 14:00, medical crews recovered the body of a member of a Palestinian armed group from Beit Hanoun.
  • At approximately 15:00, Israeli military aircrafts dropped flyers throughout the northern Gaza Strip ordering the populations of the east of Jabalya and Beit Lahia to evacuate their homes, and providing names of members of Palestinian armed groups allegedly killed by Israeli airstrikes.
  • At approximately 19:50, Israeli tanks that had moved into the northern Gaza Strip fired dozens of shells that landed in the vicinity of Abu al-Khair Mosque in Jabalya. As a result, 5 Palestinian civilians, including 3 children and a woman, were killed: Mohammed Mousa Marzouq ‘Elwan, 9; Hind ‘Emad Qaddoura, 10; Yousef ‘Emad Qaddoura, 11; Miriam Ahmed Khalil ‘Abed Rabbi, 67; and Youfse Mohammed Abu Khalifa, 29.
  • At approximately 00:30 on Tuesday, 29 July 2014, medical sources declared that Faiza Ahmed ‘Abdul Fattah al-Nadi, 59, died of wounds she had sustained when an Israeli artillery shell in Jabalya on the previous day.
  • At approximately 02:40, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at a warehouse of paints in Jabalya causing a blaze.
  • At approximately 04:00, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a bus of Union Transportation and Tourism Company in Tal al-Za’tar area in Jabalya. The bus was destroyed.
  • At approximately 08:30, an Israeli drone fired a missile at members of a Palestinian armed group in Jabalya killing one of them and wounding another one.
  • At approximately 09:55, an Israeli drone fired a missile at Suhail Hussein ‘Abdul Karim ‘Abed Rabbi, 32, in Beit Lahia, killing him and wounding his wife Mirvat ‘Abdullah ‘Abed Rabbu, 31, and his child Nagham, 12.
  • In the past two days, Israeli warplanes bombarded and destroyed 5 house belonging to the families of Tarroush, Abu ‘Eida, Abu Zaida, Siam and Dardouna.

Gaza City:

Israeli warplanes launched a series of airstrikes that targeted houses, flats, offices of al-Aqsa satellite channel and radio, while Israeli tanks and gunboats fired dozens of shells at the city. As a result of these attacks, 23 Palestinians, 20 of whom are civilians, including 11 children and 2 women, were killed, while bodies of 4 Palestinian civilians, including 2 children and a woman, were recovered from al-Shuja’iya neighborhood. The victims include 10 children and an old man in an incident which PCHR is still investigating, as a projectile hit them while they were celebrating the Eid al-Futur in al-Shati refugee camp, west of Gaza City. Additionally, 70 Palestinians, including 18 children and 6 women, were wounded.

The most significant attacks were as follows:

  • At approximately 12:30 on Sunday, 27 July 2014, Yousef ‘Abed Shihada al-Masri, 24, was killed when he was passing near a house belonging to the Murtaja family in al-Shuj’aya neighborhood, which was bombarded and destroyed by Israeli warplanes.
  • At approximately 13:40, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at a 3-storey house belonging to Sameh Waleed Abu Sharar, 34, in which 4 families live, in al-Tuffah neighborhood in the east of Gaza City. As a result, the house was destroyed and Abu Sharar was killed.
  • At approximately 14:00, a shell fired by an Israeli battleship hit a house belonging to George Kamel ‘Ayad, 75, in al-Rasheed Street near Gaza Port. As a result, ‘Ayad’s wife, Jaliliya Faraj ‘Ayad, 65, was killed, and he and his two sons, Jeryes, 31, and Antoine, 27, were wounded.
  • At approximately 14:10, an Israeli drone fired a missile at an uninhabited flat on the 9th floor of al-Fayrouz building in al-Mashtal area in the northwest of Gaza City. The flat was extensively damaged.
  • At approximately 16:30, an Israeli drone fired a missile at the 4th floor of al-Hilu building belonging to Salman Hassan al-Hilu near al-Azhar intersection in the west of Gaza City. The floor was extensively damaged.
  • At approximately 17:30, medical crews recovered bodies of 5 members of the Daher family, whose house was shelled by Israeli forces on 20 July 2014. The victims were identified as: Majed Yousef Mohammed Daher, 54; Hanan Ramdan Daher, 48; Narmin Majed Yousef Dahe, 13; and Shaima’ Majed Yousef Daher, 10. It should be noted that the body of another member of the family, Adham Majed Yousef Daher, 18, had been already recovered.
  • At approximately 16:45 on Monday, 28 July 2014, a projectile landed near a number of Palestinian children were playing and celebrating the Eid al-Futur in the northern part of al-Shati refugee camp, west of Gaza City. As a result, 10 children and a passing old man were killed: Yousef ‘Abdul Rahman Hassouna, 11; Mahmoud Hazem Shubair, 12; Ahmed Hazem Shubair, 10; Jamal Saleh ‘Olayan, 8; Baraa’ Akram Miqdad, 7; Mohammed Nahidh Miqdad, 13; Mohammed Mahmoud Abu Shaqfa, 7; Mohammed ‘Emad Baroud, 10; Ahmed Jaberr Wishah, 10; Mansour Rami Hajjaj, 14; and Subhi ‘Awadh al-Hilu, 63. A PCHR field worker arrived at the scene 20 minutes following this incidents, while ambulances were completing the evacuation of the wounded persons and the bodies of victims. She reported that the projectile landed on the street near a grocery shop as a number of children were playing in the area. She further reported that the high number of casualties and the extensive destruction in the area are not different from the outcomes of Israeli attacks over the past days. PCHR will continue to investigate this incident in the upcoming days.

– In the evening, medical sources in Jordan declared that Zakaria ‘Alaa’ Subhi al-Batash, 20, and Hussam ‘Abdul Latif Radi, 43, died of wounds they had sustained by Israeli attacks on al-Sha’af and al-Shuja’iya neighborhoods in the east of Gaza City.

  • At approximately 17:00, bodies of 3 members of a Palestinian armed group were evacuated to Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. They were killed on 26 July 2014 by Israeli airstrikes on al-Zaytoun neighborhood in the southeast of Gaza City.
  • At approximately 22:30, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at a house belonging to the Abu Kwaik family in Sheikh Radwan neighborhood in the north of Gaza City. The house was destroyed and Mahmoud ‘Abdul Jalil Tawfiq Abu Kwaik, 29.
  • At approximately 00:00 on Tuesday, 29 July 2014, Israeli battleship fired dozens of shells at Palestinian houses in the west of Gaza City. As a result, 13 houses were damaged.
  • At approximately 02:00, Israeli tanks positioned in the east of Gaza City fired a number of shells at Palestinian houses. A shell hit a house belonging to the al-Je’el family, killing Suhaila ‘Abdul Qader Mohammed al-Je’el, 63, was killed, and the house was damaged.
  • At approximately 02:30, an Israeli warplane fired a missile at a 3-storey house belonging to Ismail ‘Abdul Salam Ismail Haniya, former Palestinian Prime Minister and Member of the Palestinian Legislative Council in the west of Gaza City. The house was destroyed.
  • At approximately 02:50, an Israeli warplane fired a missile at the building of al-Aqsa satellite channel in al-Nasser neighborhood in the north of Gaza City. The building was partially destroyed.
  • At approximately 03:30, Israeli warplanes launched 3 missiles at the headquarters of the Palestinian Ministry of Finance in the west of Gaza City. The building was destroyed and the adjacent to the building and a number of houses, including a house belonging to Mr. Raji Sourani, Director PCHR, were extensively damaged. Sourani’s house was hit by 2 missiles fired by an Israeli drone. No casualties were reported.
  • At approximately 03:00, an Israeli warplane fired a missile at al-Ameen Mosque near Abu Mazen Square in the west of Gaza City. The mosque was destroyed.
  • At approximately 04:00, an Israeli warplane launched another missile at the building of al-Aqsa satellite channel in al-Nasser neighborhood in Gaza City. The building was completely destroyed.
  • Also at approximately 04:00, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at offices of al-Aqsa Radio in al-Nasser neighborhood destroying it. Israeli warplanes fired another missile at another office of al-Aqsa Radio on the 5th floor of al-Shorouq building in al-Remal neighborhood, destroying it. Five minutes later, Israeli warplanes fired a missile at an office of al-Aqsa satellite channel on the 15th floor of the same building, destroying it.
  • At approximately 05:00, an Israeli warplane fired a missile at a site of a Palestinian armed group in al-Mashtal area in the northwest of Gaza City. The site was decoyed and Rahaf Ibrahim Farahat, 1 month, was killed in a nearby house.
  • Overnight, Israeli forces fired dozens of flash bombs into the sky of Gaza City, and fired dozens of artillery shells at the city. Iman Kamel Habib, 41, died in an UNRWA shell as she inhaled gases spread over by such shells.
  • At approximately 08:00, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at a 4-storey house belonging to the heirs of ‘Omar ‘Abdul Qader al-Tabatibi, in which 30 people live, in al-Nasser neighborhood in Gaza City. The house was destroyed.

The Central Gaza Strip:

Israeli warplanes launched 20 airstrikes and fired dozens of shells at agricultural plots, open areas and houses. As a result of these attacks, 42 Palestinians, 40 of whom are civilians, including 18 children and 6 women, were killed, and 207 others, including 70 children and 50 women, were wounded. Additionally, 13 houses were destroyed.

The most significant attacks were as follows:

  • At approximately 11:00 on Sunday, 27 August 2014, medical sources declared that Bahaa’ Salah Abu Sa’id, 26, died of wounds he had sustained by an Israeli airstrike 2 hours earlier.
  • At approximately 12:25, an Israeli drone fired a missile in the vicinity of al-Qassam Mosque in al-Nussairat refugee camp. As a result, a member of a Palestinian armed group was killed.
  • At approximately 13:30, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at a 2-storey house belonging to Mohammed Sabri al-Ashqar, in which 7 people live, in al-Nussairat refugee camp. The house was destroyed.
  • At approximately 00:00 on Monday, 28 July 2014, medical sources declared that ‘Emad Jameel al-Bardawil, 45, who is mentally disabled, died of wounds he had sustained on 11 July 2014 in Deir al-Balah.
  • At approximately 21:20, Israeli tanks positioned to the east of the central Gaza Strip fired a number of shells at al-Mufti lands in the west of al-Nussairat refugee camp. As a result, Ayman ‘Adnan Shukur, 25, was killed.
  • At approximately 22:00, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at 2-storey house belonging to Riad Zuhdi al-Masri, in which 7 people live, in Deir al-Balah. The house was destroyed.
  • At approximately 22:10, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at a road in al-Nussairat refugee camp. As a result, ‘Abdul Samad Mohammed Ramadan, 16, was killed, and 4 persons were wounded.
  • At approximately 23:00, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a 2-storey house belonging to Ziad Salman Qaraman, in which 20 people live, in al-Nussairat refugee camp. A few minutes later, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at the house and destroyed it.
  • At approximately 23:15, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at a 2-storey house belonging to Salem Mohammed al-Far, 58, in which 40 people live, in al-Maghazi refugee camp. As a result, the house was destroyed, and the owner and Ramzi Hussein al-Far, 24, were killed. A few hours later, medical crews were able to recover the body of Jihan Salem al-Far, 25, from the debris of the house. Rescue teams are still searching for victim under the debris.
  • At approximately 23:20, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at a 3-storey house belonging to ‘Abdul Hai ‘Abdul Jawad Ismail, in which 20 people live, in al-Maghazi refugee camp. As a result, the house was destroyed and a neighbor, ‘Eissa Kamel Mousa, 62, was killed.
  • Also at approximately 23:20, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a 2-storey house belonging to Hussein Najeeb Mash’al, in which 7 people live, in Deir al-Balah. A few minutes later, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at the house and destroyed it.
  • At approximately 23:30, an Israeli droned fired a missile at a 2-storey house belonging to Ibrahim Mutair Nassar, in which 20 people live, in Deir al-Balah. A few minutes later, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at the house and destroyed it.
  • At approximately 23:50, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a 3-storey house belonging to Ahmed Husni al-Kurd, in which 50 people live, in Deir al-Balah. A few minutes later, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at the house and destroyed it.
  • At approximately 00:30 on Tuesday, 29 July 2014, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at a 2-storey house belonging to the heirs of Husni Mohammed Abu Jaber, in which 9 people live in al-Boreij refugee camp. As a result, the house and 2 nearby houses were destroyed, and 16 Palestinian civilians were killed: Anwar Mohammed Abu Jaber, 35; Lina Kifah Abu Jaber, 25; Leen and Salma Anwar Abu Jaber, 2 and 1 respectively; ‘Aaesha Hamdan Abu Jaber, 23; Mohammed Ra’ed Abu Jaber, 3; Fadel Hamdan Abu Jaber, 19; Hamdan Mohammed Abu Jaber, 78; Ahmed Hamdan Abu Jaber, 35; Jaber Hamdan Abu Jaber, 27; Sama Ra’ed Abu Jaber, 1; Tuqa Salah Khalil Abu ‘Eissa, 1; Ahmed ‘Omar Sa’id ‘Abdul ‘Aal, 24; Ayman Salah Abu ‘Oun, 26; Anwar Mohammed Abu Jaber, 24; and Dina Hamdan Abu Jaber, 26, pregnant. Rescue teams are still searching for victims under the debris of the house.
  • At approximately 01:45, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a 3-storey house belonging to Fayez ‘Eid Abu Shareef, in which 11 people live, in Deir al-Balah. A few minutes later, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at the house and destroyed it. As a result, Riham Tayseer Abu Mashi, 13, who lives in a nearby house, was killed and 18 civilians were wounded.
  • Also at approixmately01:45, Israeli warplanes lunched 2 missiles at a carton factory in the east of al-Nussairat refugee camp. The factory was destroyed.
  • At approximately 03:10, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a 3-storey house belonging to Mohammed ‘Atiya Abu Khousa, in which 20 people live, in al-Sawarha area in the west of al-Nussairat refugee camp. A few minutes later, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at the house and destroyed it. As a result, 9 members of the family, including 7 children and a woman, were killed: Ibrahim ‘Abed Rabbu Abu Khousa, 33; Sabreen Mohammed Abu Khousa, 33; Fadi, Fatema, Mohammed and Shahad Ibrahim Abu Khousa, 2, 3, 1 and 10 respectively; Yazan ‘Emad Abu Khousa, 3; Rital Basheer Abu Khousa, 1; and Jana Bilal Abu Khousa, 1.
  • At approximately 03:45, Israeli warplanes launched 2 missiles at a 2-storey house belonging to Anees ‘Abdul Rahman Abu Shammala, 52, Mayor of al-Boreij, in which 8 people live. As a result, the mayor, his father ‘Abdul Rahman ‘Oqailan Abu Shammala, 74, and his nephew Mohammed Mohammed Abu Shammala, 10, were killed, and 30 of his relatives were wounded.
  • At approximately 05:40, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at a house belonging to the Abu ‘Amra family, in which Akram ‘Abdullah al-Sumairi and his brothers who fled from Israeli shelling, in Wadi al-Salqa village. As a result, Mohammed and Ibrahim Akram ‘Abdullah al-Sumairi, 14 and 10 respectively, were killed, and 40 others were wounded.
  • At approximately 06:00, Israeli warplanes and tanks bombarded Gaza Power Plant to the north of al-Nussairat refugee camp. Fuel tanks were burnt, and the plant was stopped.
  • At approximately 07:00, an Israeli artillery shell hit a house belonging to Ibrahim Mohammed Kalloub in Deir al-Balah, killing his grandchild, Ibrahim Mo’tassem Kalloun, 4.
  • At approximately 07:20, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a house belonging to Ahmed Mohammed Ahmed, 51, in al-Nussairat refugee camp. Ahmed was killed and 5 civilians were wounded.

Khan Yunis:

Israeli warplanes launched 42 airstrikes and tanks and gunboats fired dozens of shells at Palestinian civilians and property in Khan Yunis. As a result of these attacks, 50 Palestinians, 48 of whom are civilians, including 15 children and 7 women, were killed, and a child died of a previous wound. Three bodies of civilians killed in Khuza’a village were recovered. Additionally, 140 Palestinians, including 24 children and 16 women, were wounded, and 15 houses were destroyed.

The most significant attacks were as follows:

  • At approximately 10:10 on Sunday, 27 July 2014, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a motorbike in al-Zanna area in Bani Suhaila village, east of Khan Yunis. As a result, ‘Essam ‘Abdul Karim Abu Sa’ada, 45, was killed. A number of Israeli artillery shells hit the same area wounding 2 civilians, including a woman.
  • Also at approximately 10:10, Israeli tanks positioned to the east of Khan Yunis fired a number of shells at Palestinian areas.
  • Also at approximately 10:10, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at a motorbike in ‘Abassan village, killing a member of a Palestinian armed group.
  • At approximately 10:30, an Israeli drone fired a missile at the third floor of a house belonging Sami al-Braim in Ermaida area in Bani Suhaila. No casualties were reported.
  • At approximately 11:50, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a motorbike in Bni Suhaila village, killing Khaled ‘Abdul Sattar Sahmoud, 22.
  • In the morning, medical sources declared that Fadi Salem Sami Baraka, 14, died in an Egyptian hospital. He was wounded by an Israeli airstrike a few days ago in Bani Suhaila.
  • At approximately 15:25, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at a house belonging to Waji Ghanem in Bani Suhaila village, east of Khan Yunis.
  • At approximately 17:25, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at an agricultural plot in Bani Suhaila village, east of Khan Yunis.

– At approximately 17:50, Israeli drones fired 2 missile at a motorbike and a vehicles of Bani Suhaila Municipality in al-Zanna area in Bani Suhaila. As a result, ‘Essam Ibrahim Abu Shab, 42, a worker in the municipality, was killed and 3 others were wounded, but they died later: Mousa Ahmed Abu Sa’da, 42; Hussein Hassan Abu al-Naja, 65; and Ahmed Mahmoud Abu al-Naja, 15.

  • At approximately 01:30 on Monday, 28 July 2014, medical sources at the European Gaza Hospital declared that Dawlat Nafez Qudaih, 17, died of wounds she had sustained on 24 July 2014, when an Israeli warplane attacked a motorbike in al-Shawafin area in ‘Abassan, as she and his family were trying to leave Khuza’a village. Her father, her brother and another civilian were killed in the attack.
  • At approximately 06:00, Israeli tanks positioned to the east of Khan Yunis fired a number of shells at Palestinian areas.
  • At approximately 13:30, Israeli forces allowed the ICRC and medical crews to enter Khuza’a village, east of Khan Yunis, and allowed them to search for victims in 2 quarters in the village. They were allowed to recover bodies of 3 Palestinian civilians: Suleiman Mohammed Qudaih, 75; his son Akram, 45; and Mohammed Tawfiq Qudaih, 58, who was shot dead on 25 July 2014, and his case was documented by PCHR in previous press releases.
  • At approximately 15:20, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at an agricultural plot in ‘Abassan village, east of Khan Yunis.
  • At approximately 17:20, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a house belonging to ‘Abed Rabbu al-Reqeb in Bani Suhaila village. A few minutes later, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at the house and destroyed it.
  • In the evening, Israeli tanks violently shelled al-Zanna area in Bani Suhaila village, east of Khan Yunis. As a result, 2 Palestinian civilians were wounded.
  • At approximately 19:00, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a member of a Palestinian armed group in al-Satar al-Gharbi area in the northwest of Khan Yunis. He was seriously wounded.
  • At approximately 19:20, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a number of Palestinian civilians in al-Manara neighborhood in Khan Yunis. As a result, Yahia Mohammed ‘Abdullah al-‘Aqqad, 49, was killed and 3 others were wounded.
  • At approximately 19:30, Israeli warplane launched 2 airstrikes on the south of al-Nemsawi neighborhood in the west of Gaza City.
  • At approximately 20:20, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a house belonging to ‘Abdul Hai al-‘Abadla in al-Qarara village. As a result, al-‘Abadla’s son, 26, was killed.
  • At approximately 21:00, an Israeli drone fired a missile near al-Qassas family council in Sheikh Nasser area. As a result, 2 Palestinian civilians were killed: Mahmoud Ussama Hamdan al-Qassas, 24; and ‘Abdul Rahman Mohammed Ferwana, 35. Twenty civilians were also wounded.
  • At approximately 21:50, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a number of Palestinian civilians near Al Yasser Mosque in Bani Suhaila village, east of Khan Yunis. As a result, 4 civilians, including a man and his son, were killed: Khaled Younis al-Reeqb, 42; his son Rami,16; Naji Ahmed Mardi al-Reeqb, 39; and Hussein Yasser Mahmoud Abu Saqer, 16.
  • At approximately 22:00, Israeli drones fired 2 missiles at 2 houses belonging to the Sha’at and al-Agha in Ma’an area in the south of Khan Yunis, while their residents were inside. As a result, 9 Palestinian civilians were killed: Nader ‘Ata Fadel al-Najjar, 47; his 4 children: Ahmed, Dalia, Dina and Fadel, 21, 17. 14 and 11 respectively; Mohammed Fadel ‘Ata al-Agha, 30; Marwa Jameel Shaker al-Agha, 50; her son Nidal Majdi ‘Ata aal-Agha, 18; and Mohammed Jum’a Sha’at. Twenty civilians were also wounded. There are concerns that other victims could be under the debris of the two houses.
  • At approximately 00:20 on Tuesday, 29 July 2014, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at a 2-storey house belonging to Subhi ‘Ali Mohammed Ferwana in the west of al-Qarara village. As a result, Ferwana’s brother, Ahmed, 23, was killed, and another 3 civilians were wounded.
  • At approximately 01:00, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at a number of Palestinian civilians near the campus of the Islamic University in Ma’an area in the south of Khan Yunis. As a result, 4 civilians were wounded.
  • Also at approximately 01:00, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at a house belonging to the Sahwil family in al-Jiya area in the west of al-Qarara village.
  • At approximately 01:10, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at a house belonging to ‘Izziddin ‘Omar al-Najjar in Ma’an area. As a result, the owner’s wife, Siham Raji Khalil al-Najjar, 46; his daughter ‘Aaida, 21; and his grandchild, Sarah Ahmed Sidqi ‘Abdul Ghafour, 1, were killed. Seven members of the family were also wounded.
  • At approximately 04:10, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at a 2-storey house belonging to Hisham ‘Abed Rabbu, in which 8 people live, in Khan Yunis refugee camp. The house was destroyed.
  • At approximately 05:20, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at a 3-storey house belonging to Mohammed ‘Ata al-Najjar, 50, in Gizan al-Najjar area in the south of Khan Yunis. As a result, al-Najjar and 6 other members of the family were killed: Essam, Islam and ‘Ata Mohammed ‘Ata al-Najjar, 24, 15 and 33 respectively; Mohammed and Rafif ‘Ata Mohammed al-Najjaar, 2 and 3 respectively; and Khaled ‘Omar al-Najjar, 23. Four members of the family were also wounded.
  • Also at approximately 05:20, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at a neighboring s-torey house belonging to Ibrahim Hassan al-Najjar. The house was destroyed and 6 members of the family, including 2 women and a child, were killed: Fawzia Qassem Hannoun al-Najjar, 80; Mona Ismail Khamis al-Najjar, 43; Jihad Ibrahim Hassan al-Najjar, 24; Mona Jihad Ibrahim al-Najjar, 1; Hamad Yousef Hassan al-Najjar, 23; and Mohammed Zaki Hassan al-Najjar, 30.
  • In the early morning, Israeli warplanes launched at least 13 airstrikes at targets in al-Qarara village and the eastern area.
  • At approximately 07:25, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at an agricultural plot in al-Mawasi area in the west of Khan Yuniss.
  • At approximately 07:30, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at a 4-storey apartment building in the center of Khan Yunis. The building was completely destroyed, and at least 7 Palestinian civilians, including 2 children and a man and his two children, were killed: Jana and Lama Ahmed Fayez Baraka, 3 and 1 respectively; Jameel Ahmed Hamed al-Najjar; his daughter Lamia, 23, and his son Mohammed, 12; Aya Sami Anwar al-Ramlawi, 9; and Aya Ibrahim Hassan Abu Sitta, 23. Fifteen civilians were also wounded. There are concerns that more victim could be under the debris of the building.
  • At approximately 08:30, Israeli warplanes launched 2 missiles at 2 house belonging to the Sha’at family near the European Gaza Hospital. The two houses were destroyed.

Rafah:

Israeli warplanes launched 41 airstrikes and Israeli tanks and gunboats fired dozens of shells targeting houses, agricultural plots and open area. As a result of these attacks, 21 Palestinian civilians were killed, including 7 children and 8 women, 2 of whom were pregnant. Additionally, 52 civilians, including 26 children and 6 women, were wounded. Ten houses, 2 mosques and a store were also destroyed.

The most significant attacks were as follows:

  • At approximately 12:10 on Sunday, 27 July 2014, Israeli warplanes launched 2 missiles at an agricultural plot in al-Nasser village, northeast of Rafah.
  • At approximately 19:00, medical sources at an Egyptian hospital declared that Mohammed Ahmed Harbi Siam, 7, died of wounds he had sustained by an Israeli airstrike on 24 July 2014.
  • At approximately 21:20, Israeli tanks fired 3 shells at houses in al-Shouka village, east of Rafah.
  • At approximately 12:00 on Monday, 28 July 2014, an Israeli military aircraft dropped flyers over Rafah, listing names of members of Palestinian armed groups who were killed Israeli forces and promising to list more names son.
  • At approximately 20:30, Israeli tanks fired a number of shells at houses in al-Tannour neighborhood in the east of Rafah.
  • At approximately 22:00, Israeli tanks fired a number of shells at houses in al-Junaina and Musabbeh neighborhoods in the north of Rafah.
  • At approximately 22:20, Israeli tanks fired a number of shells at houses near the destroyed Gaza International Airport in the southeast of Rafah.
  • At approximately 22:40, Israeli tanks fired 2 shells at houses in Kherbat al-‘Adas neighborhood in the north of Rafah.
  • At approximately 22:45, Israeli drones fired 2 missiles at a store of ‘Ata Contracting Company in al-Siamat neighborhood in Rafah. The store was burnt.
  • At approximately 23:00, Israeli drones fired 4 missiles at al-Sabrin Mosque in al-Siamat neighborhood in the north of Rafah. The mosque was partially destroyed.
  • At approximately 23:30, Israeli drones fired 2 missiles at a house belonging to ‘Abdul Malek Hamdan Abu Siam in al-Siamat neighborhood in the north of Rafah. The house was partially destroyed.
  • At approximately 00:10, Israeli warplanes launched 4 missiles at a 2-storey house belonging to ‘Abdullah Hassan Abu Zaid in Tabbat Zare’ area in the east of Rafah. As a result, 7 members of the family were killed: Ahmed ‘Abdullah Abu Zaid, 24; Shamma Wa’ek Abu Zaid, 16; Sabreen Khader Abu Zaid, 30; Bissan Eyad Abu Zaid, 12; Miriam Marzouq Abu Zaid, 31, pregnant; ‘Abdullah Nidal Abu Zaid, 5; and Palestine Mohammed Abu Zaid, 26. Fourteen members of the family were also wounded. The house and another neighboring house were destroyed.
  • At approximately 00:15 on Tuesday, 29 July 2014, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at an agricultural plot in al-Nasser village, northeast of Rafah.
  • At approximately 01:50, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a motorbike parked in Tal al-Sultan neighborhood in the west of Rafah, destroying it.
  • At approximately 03:10, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a house belonging to ‘Aatef Ghayadh Shallouf in Kherbat al-‘Adas in the north of Rafah. a few minutes later, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at the house and destroyed it. As a result, 10 members of the family were seriously wounded.
  • At approximately 03:00, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a house belonging to Hani Kamal Abu Taha, in which 7 people live in al-Tannour neighborhood in the east of Rafah. A few minutes later, an Israeli was plane launched a missile at the house and destroyed it.
  • At approximately 04:35, Israeli warplanes launched 2 missiles at a house belonging to the sons of Mahmoud Duhair in Musabbeh, in which 30 people live, neighborhood in the north of Rafah. The house was destroyed and 7 members of the family were killed: Turkiya Khalil Duhair, 66; ‘Ezzat Salama Duhair, 23, a freelance journalist; ‘Omar Salam Duhair, 38; ‘Omar ‘Omar Duhair, 12; Maria ‘Omar Duhair, 12; Yasmeen Ahmed Duhair, 24; Tasneem Mohammed Duhair, 8; and Wafaa’ ‘Abdul Raziq Duhair, 28, pregnant. Additionally, another 4 civilians were wounded. Rescue teams are still searching for the other members of the family under the debris.
  • At approximately 05:20, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a house belonging to Noura Mohammed Farahat, in which 9 people live, in ‘Omar Bin al-Khattab Street in the north of Rafah. A few minutes later, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at the house and destroyed it.
  • At approximately 06:00, an Israeli drone fired a missile near a house belonging to Ahmed Sa’id all-Hashash in al-Hashash neighborhood in the north of Rafah. When members of the family attempted to evacuate the house taking their disabled mother out, the Israeli drone fired a missile at them. When a number of their relatives attempted to help them, the Israeli drone fired a third missile at them. As a result of these attacks, 6 civilians were killed: Ibrahim Ahmed al-Hashash, 16; Mohammed Ahmed al-Hashash, 18; Mas’oud Ahmed al-Hashash, 20; Sa’id Ahmed al-Hashash, 20; their mother Hana’ Ali al-Hashash, 43; and Mohammed Mousa al-Hashash, 20. Eleven civilians were also wounded.
  • At approximately 06:05, an Israeli drone fired a missile at a house belonging to Rami al-Dukhni in al-Junaina neighborhood. A few minutes later, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at the house and destroyed it. A child was wounded.
  • At approximately 06:30, an Israeli drone fired 2 missiles at a hosue belonging to Salah Mohammed Abu Nada, in which 30 people live, in al-Junaina neighborhood. A few minutes later, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at the house and destroyed it. A child was wounded.
  • At approximately 06:45, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at a house in al-Shaboura refugee camp. The house was destroyed and a member of an armed group was seriously wounded. Four neighbors were also wounded as their houses were damaged.
  • At approximately 07:05, Israeli drones fired 3 missiles at a house belonging to Mohammed ‘Abdul Salam al-Mughrabi, in which 6 people live, in al-Siamat neighborhood in the north of Rafah. A few minutes later, an Israeli warplane launched a missile at the house and destroyed it. A number of neighboring houses were extensively damaged.

PCHR reiterates condemnation, expresses utmost concern for these crimes, and:

1) Warns of deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip in light of this continuous Israeli military escalation, threats to expand military operations, and the continued tightened closure of the Gaza Strip;
2) Calls upon the international community to act immediately to stop these crimes, and renews the call to the High Contracting Parties of the Fourth Geneva Convention to fulfill their obligation under Article 1 of the Convention to ensure that it is respected at all times, and their responsibilities under Article 146 to pursue perpetrators of serious violations of the Convention, which are determined in Article 147, which lists violations of the Convention amounting to war crimes; and
3) Calls for establishing a UN fact-finding mission to investigate suspected war crimes committed by Israeli forces against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip, and take necessary steps to prosecute responsible for them.
