Since the ceasefire entered into force in the Gaza Strip 19 days ago, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) have continued to commit daily violations. However, last night marked a serious escalation, as the Israeli government took a political decision to launch a large-scale military assault. During the assault, the IOF used various types of weapons to strike areas across the Gaza Strip -from north to south- turning civilians and civilian objects into primary targets.
Within less than 14 hours, this assault killed 104 Palestinians, including 46 children, 20 women, and one journalist, and injured 253 others, among them 78 children and 84 women. These crimes reflect Israel’s systematic policy of mass killing and the deliberate targeting of civilians.
The repeated crimes committed by the IOF against civilians in the Gaza Strip reaffirm that Israel is pursuing a new systematic policy that dictates a daily pattern of bombardment and killing, showing complete disregard for the ceasefire announced on 10 October. Since that date, airstrikes and artillery shelling have continued unabated, resulting so far in the killing of 211 Palestinians, including approximately 70 children, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.

These crimes constitute a new episode in the ongoing series of daily violations and form part of a consistent pattern of Israeli aggression and collective punishment against the population of the Gaza Strip. They amount to grave breaches of the four Geneva Conventions of 1949 and international humanitarian law, which strictly prohibit the targeting of civilians and civilian objects. Furthermore, the repeated attacks on children, women, journalists, and shelters reflect a deliberate intent to inflict the highest number of casualties and to spread terror among the civilian population.
PCHR warns that the international community’s continued silence towards these crimes and failure to hold Israel accountable grant it a green light to persist in its killing and destruction, paving the way for a new phase of systematic genocidal crimes against Palestinian civilians.
PCHR calls on the international community, the United Nations, and the Security Council to uphold their responsibilities and take immediate action, including providing urgent protection for civilians, ending the IOF’s military presence in the Gaza Strip, halting the use of tactics and weapons that target civilian neighborhoods, and compelling Israel to cease its attacks and siege of the Strip.
